Spike's Bitches 35: We Got a History

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Nice, Laura.

Recipe, Hil? I have a gorgeous eggplant that I need to do something with, but I'm missing an ingredient for its intended purpose.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Hey, those are pretty good rainbow pics for being from a cell phone! Nice.

Hooray, vegetables. Not that I'm eating any today, but still.

I have a recipe for a farfel-tomato bake that I want to try, it's supposed to be like pasta. I also have some koseher-for-passover noodles that I got because I though that noodles would make nice change, but now I don't know what to do with them. I keep falling back on the jellies and bon bons, which is no way for a grown woman to eat.

(edited because nouns help with the sense making)

"It didn't taste good. It tasted soooo horrible. It tasted like....a vodka martini." - Matilda

I love those communal "this is beautiful" moments.

Then there are communal "this is funny" moments. I was just standing in line at a bakery area of the farmer's market, and a black woman poured herself a cup of coffee. Her friend said, "That looks strong," and she said, "That's the way I like it. Strong and black." All of us who were waiting started looking at each other and giggling.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Turkish Eggplant and Cheese Casserole (Almodrote de Berengena)

Cut a bunch of slits into the eggplant. Roast at 400, turning a few times, for about 50 minutes, or until soft. Let cool for a few minutes, then cut in half and scoop out all the inside stuff. Let it sit in a colander for about half an hour. Then chop it up and mix with 1/2 cup crumbled feta, 1/4 cup grated kashkaval or mild cheddar, 2 eggs, 1/3 cup bread crumbs or matzo meal, and a pinch of salt, pepper, and sugar. Put into an 8x8 oiled pan, drizzle a little olive oil on top, and bake for about 10 minutes at 350. Sprinkle another 1/4 cup kashkaval or cheddar on top and bake about another 15 minutes. Let stand five minutes before cutting.

(This is adapted from the recipe in Olive Trees and Honey.)

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

And Hec, it sounds like Emmett is doing just fine. Sounds like such a fun kid!

Yeah, he's doing well. He promised me that he carefully revised his essay that he turned in today. And he called me on my cell phone from his aftercare and asked if he could get out early to poke around with his friends and I'd meet him at an arranged pickup. And he was there and on time. And on the way home we played an alphabet game and he used the words Beryllium for B and Zygomorphic for Z. Also he gave me the atomic weight for Beryllium

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

That sounds like a good recipe, Hil.

I'm avoiding doing my discussion board post for tonight, which I really need to do so that I can get to bed. So tired.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Loving biyitea!

Kristin, much good health~ma to your Gram.

I add Oxyclean to every load of laundry. I've had to switch to totally unscented everything recently when it comes to laundry, because the smell of the fabric softener, etc left on the clothes was starting to aggravate my asthma.

and sj is me, except for the Oxyclean. My allergist and my derm both told me to stop using the toss-in dryer sheets. Irritating to sensitive skin, apparently. I can't stand fragrances. I use the Arm&Hammer Free laundry soap and vinegar in the rinse water to soften.

I do not know where the source of internal motivation truly lies, for I surely have none. Not much external either.

aaand the Benadryl is kicking in. Bed soon.

Now tagless for your comfort.

It's only Thursday, People--y'all have been extra talky today. To sum up:

We use Tide Free.

Oxyclean is the shit.

Totally unsurprised that Cindy's kids are smart, funny and well-behaved.

Kristin, I hope your gram's wrist is better and that she's on the mend.

Emmett=smartypants. Beryllium=bad, nasty, nasty metal.

My niece, her boyfriend and their two kids have been here visiting. They're spending the night. We have to pack to leave for Indy tomorrow and Owen is STILL freakin' awake. The booger.
