"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

So I finally saw The Batman cartoon. Hmmmmmmmm.

It's very different from both the Dini-cartoonverse and the current comics continuity. This Batman is still in his twenties, only three years into his mission. After Alfred (who's tougher, less effete) it's almost a clean slate. I did like the way they did the Joker - very Kabuki inspired, with a fighting style out of Mad Monkey Kung Fu. It looked good though. Also, liked his strait-jacket ensemble with the Burton-esque stripes. I thought it was an interesting choice to make the Joker more of an equal physical combatant.

Gotham looked cool - dense, urban, goth. Interesting focus on the Gotham PD. There's much more emphasis on Bruce Wayne Puts On The Mask rather than Bruce Wayne Is The Mask.

Have to chalk it up to Ple's different versions of the myth.

From what I've read, it sounds like Batman Begins is going to be the same way.

Did anyone catch JLU? Can someone tell me why Green Lantern needed to leave Earth for personal reasons? I didn't understand that little exchange he had with that older green faced guy at the beginning. Also, is Lex Luthor no longer a villian, or was he just blowing smoke up that reporter's ass?

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

why Green Lantern needed to leave Earth for personal reasons?

It goes back to last season's finale, when GL had a really, really bad breakup with Hawkgirl.

Also, is Lex Luthor no longer a villian, or was he just blowing smoke up that reporter's ass?

Most likely the latter, but then again LL did save the Earth, as Dr. Fate pointed out.

I was a little (okay, a LOT) confused about Hawkgirl showing up at the end of JLU. Was she just hanging out at that turns-to-an-ankh dude's place? And if so, why?

Well, we're probably not meant to know the "why" yet, but it's still confusing to me.

Also, who is turns-to-an-ankh dude, and is he a good guy? I was assuming he's a good guy b/c he was on the JLU space station, but then the end seemed a bit ominous. Or at least grey.

See I saw last season's finale, but I didn't get why GL would think Hawkgirl was on the GL home base world.

Also, I got the impression that the Ankh guy (Fate?) is good/neutral.

I got the impression that he's not looking for Hawkgirl, he wants to get as far away from her as possible.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I thought what Tom thought. Though it would have made more sense earlier in the season.

Steph, you mean Dr. Fate? Because if I try to explain that character, I'm going to get all kinds of confused, as I don't know which version they're using for JLU. Though the current continuity comics Dr. Fate would be hanging with Hawkgirl because she's his mother reincarnated, and also his cousin. Oh, and Current Comics Dr. Fate is Hector Hall, who you may remember from Sandman as the deceased husband of Lyta Hall, father of Daniel, he who is now Dream of the Endless.

The animation version of whats-his-name. He originally made an appearance on Superman: The Animated Series.
