Willow: Something evil-crashed to earth in this. Then it broke out and slithered away to do badness. Giles: Well, in all fairness, we don't really know about the "slithered" part. Anya: No, no, I'm sure it frisked about like a fluffy lamb.

For anyone who missed it the first time out, "Starcrossed" (the JLA season finale) is rerunning tonight on Cartoon Network. I think it's at 7 or 8 p.m. EST.

Huh. I didn't realize that Hawkgirl and GL were knocking boots.

How funny is *Batman* consoling broken-hearted John?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I looked through the new issue of Eightball today and couldn't help thinking, "Oh shit, quit hanging out with Chris Ware."

I just re-read Batgirl: Year One, and I have some Batfamily/DC-verse questions.

(1) Babs is out of college in Year One. Dick is Robin. Is he younger than Babs? Did Babs graduate early?

(2) Black Canary. Is the current Black Canary -- the one in BoP -- the one in Year One? If so, how old is she?

(2a) Are Dinah and Ollie no longer an item in current continuity? (Like in IC.)

(2b) Did Dinah and Nightwing get together?

(2c) If 2b is correct, isn't the whole BoP gang a little bothered by the fact that they slept with the same guy? Or are they more bothered by the fact that they're only a diner and a beach away from turning into 90210?

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Babs is slightly older than Dick, and I believe she DID go to college early, although I'd be hard pressed to back that up.

(2) Black Canary. Is the current Black Canary -- the one in BoP -- the one in Year One? If so, how old is she?

Most likely. Her mom had been long retired by that point.

Are Dinah and Ollie no longer an item in current continuity? (Like in IC.)

Yep. They just broke up--again--in GA's book.

(2b) Did Dinah and Nightwing get together?

No, but Dinah thinks he's hot. But then, who doesn't?

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I'm pretty certain mention has been made somewhere, at some point, about her graduating early from both high school and college. However, like many things, best not to think to hard about it lest your brain explode (Victor, did you read the latest issue of Plastic Man?).

Black Canary. Is the current Black Canary -- the one in BoP -- the one in Year One? If so, how old is she?

As Victor said, it's BC2 there. In theory, she'd be about Bruce's age, but thankfully, there's that whole pit thing where she got all healed up and stuff, and that's better than botox for taking the years off. So, chrono age would be mid-to-late 30s, best reckoning, and physical age a good 5/10 years less than that. Sort of a reverse Bart.

If 2b is correct, isn't the whole BoP gang a little bothered by the fact that they slept with the same guy? Or are they more bothered by the fact that they're only a diner and a beach away from turning into 90210?

We need a chart. (No, Dinah has not hooked up with Nightwing. But that doesn't mean we don't need a chart.)

Roy alone would take up a whole page.

with a gleam in my eye, and an almost airtight alibi

Babs is older enough than Dick that it's clearly part of why she's trying to brush him off in Year One. And she'd have to have an MLS to be librarian, so even graduating college early doesn't make her timeline work, from what I can tell. Luckily, post-Crisis continuity doesn't include her stint as a Congresswoman for us to try to explain away as well.

Dinah got in to superheroing at a very young age, as I recall, like late teens, and that's my fanwank for her age. I will continue to believe this even if I'm wrong.

Dinah has seen Nightwing naked, but only accidentally. (And really, how can she not know who he is? But I digress.)

She's 19 in JLA Year One.

I think I once figured out something that came almost close to reasonable, but I still wound up with an extra year or two, based on the few mentions of her age we get as Batgirl. I can figure a semi-realistic timeline in my head that has her with the MLS by 20 or 21, but that's as good as I can get.

So I just sort of wave my hands and set brain on "suspend disbelief" until traffic kicks in again and I start doing math. (I was doing this for Robins/Bruce's age the other day. Stopped the moment I got out of the car, just before my brain melted out my ears.)

Don't do it, Plei! Tim Drake's timeline especially is only explicable via eddies in the space-time continuum.
