Discussion of Buffy and Angel comics, books, and more. Please don't get into spoilery details in the first week of release.
Is there a good place for actual Bverse comics analysis out there?
I honestly don't know, although I think one would be welcomed. (LJ community? Someone should volunteer.) My problem is that I'm a Johnny-come-lately to comics, too, and even though I've read A LOT of backstory, I still feel unable to meta.
(Possibly because the moment I start, I get side-tracked by all the re-reading. Or I venture my tiny, nebulous theories and get spanked by canon I don't know. Or because I have the attention span of a gnat, and generally don't meta anyway.)

I'm in a weird reverse of stuff where, with Buffy and Angel, half of everything that was supposed to be fic would turn into essays, and here, everything that's supposed to be essay turns into... fic. I can't quite explain it, beyond a vague notion that making sense of the mythology involves active playing inside the mythology, like Sophocles with less talent and more nudity.

That makes sense to me, and it reminds me of an essay I was going to write. It didn't turn to fic, somehow.

gotham_gazette on LJ seems supposed to be that, and could be revived.

I haven't found much good (or, for the matter, any) analysis of standard superhero comics of any kind. The comics blogosphere tends to produce some good analysis of selected material (Alan Moore and Grant Morrison are particular favorites), but the general consensus is that superheroes can't stand up to real critical analysis (not that I agree, but I would agree that there is a lot of dreck out there). the comics message boards are just full of fanboys worrying about changes to costumes or who would win a fight between INSERT NAME HERE and INSERT OTHER NAME HERE. Almost all chaff, no wheat.
If anybody can find some good current analysis, please point it out.
Purchased today: How to Read Superhero Comics and Why, Robin: Year One, The Golden Streets of Gotham, Gotham Noir, Batman/Huntress: Cry for Blood, Birds of Prey: Catwoman/Batgirl, Birds of Prey: Catwoman/Oracle, Birds of Prey #67, Lucifer #50, Rose and Thorn #6, Gotham Central #19, and Angel Sanctuary Vol. 2.
Library requests put in for more titles than I can recall at the moment.
Damn you all.
Blogs that seem to have some interesting comics analysis: Peiratikos and The Forager.
Still looking.
Did anyone see the preview of Astonishing that should have been in most shops today?
No -- I didn't stop by the comic shop yesterday. What would it have been in?
