Yup.
Buffistas Building a Better Board
Do you have problems, concerns or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
Ok, how's this for the "how to" page:
How to use the Block feature
If, for whatever reason, you wish to avoid reading the posts of an individual Buffista, you may block their posts. Click on the "Block" link, next to the username of the person that you want to filter out. This will hide the content of their posts to you in all threads. What you will see is a note under their username saying "This post was rendered blinvisible."
If you wish to read one post from someone you have blocked, click on the link in the post that alllows you to display the text from that post only, while leaving the rest of that person's posts blocked.
If you decide to once again begin reading the posts of that individual, you can unblock the posts by either clicking the "Unblock" link next to the individual's username, or you can click on "Set Profile", scroll down to the list of "Filtered Users", and uncheck the box beside the name of the individual(s) you wish to unblock. Hit "Ok" to save your changes to your profile page and voila, they are unblocked.
Generally, announcing you've filtered someone is considered extremely rude. Accusing people of blocking you is also uncool. Just remember that "the Buffistas are...[a] flame-free community." (link to the ettiquette page?)
For the FAQ
How do I block the posts of another poster?
If for whatever reason--say your mom has found the buffistas and is telling everyone all the embarrassing stories about you that she can think of--you've had enough of reading a certain person's posts, and you'd like some peace, you can block their posts. Click on the "Block" link beside a person's username to hide the content of their posts from your weary eyes. You'll still see their name, but the post itself will be blinvisible.
If you get curious about what your mom is saying about you now, you can clink on a link in the post, and display the text from that post only, while keeping all her other posts blocked.
When you and your mom finally make peace and you decide to start reading her posts again, you can unblock the posts by either clicking the "Unblock" link next to the individual's username, or you can click on "Set Profile", scroll down to the list of "Filtered Users", and uncheck the box beside the name of the individual(s) you wish to unblock. Hit "Ok" to save your changes to your profile page and voila, she is unblocked.
Generally, to keep things polite and humming along, we like to say that "The first rule of blocking, is not to talk about blocking." Announcing you've filtered someone is considered extremely rude. Accusing people of blocking you is also uncool. Just remember that "the Buffistas are...[a] flame-free community." (link to the ettiquette page?)
Or the last line could read:
Just remember that "Consistent demon-like behavior may earn a warning from the Stompy Feet."
Comments, edits, suggestions welcome.
The word blocked has lost all meaning to me.
They seem good to me, Sue. And I think it's good to link the ettiquette page at the end, just in case someone's got to the FAQ without reading it.
Sue, I'm betting you'd notice them before they got anywhere, but there are a couple of typos:
first paragraph: note under their use[r]name saying
second paragraph: alllows you [to]
FAQ answer:
1st paragraph: person's usernname
2nd paragraph: is say[i]ng
3rd paragraph: extraneous comma between peace, and
I agree the consistent demon-like behaviour warning should be there, though I think it should be will, not may.
Thanks for the input, and especially the proofread. I corrected a bunch of typose and stuff last night, but I knew I didn't get them all.
I quoted the "demon-like" behaviour bit right from the ettiquette page, and it uses "may" there.
I figured you got it from somewhere else around here. We're awfully nice people. *g*
Can I have fifteen testing volunteers, please?
Do they need to actually know stuff? Because if they don't, then I'd love to try and help.
