I haven't been in the loop for awhile. But have we ever looked at Brinkster as a web-hosting service. They appear to a 17.95 a month plan with 2GB of space, PHP, MySQL (or MS SQL Server), and unlimited bandwidth. Brinkster.com. I might be tempted to get helpful again and add avatars if there was unlimited bandwidth to work with.
Buffistas Building a Better Board
Do you have problems, concerns or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
Hmmm... In my (anecdotal) experience, places that say you have unlimited bandwidth always seem to find an excuse to cancel your service if you use too much. In any case, our problem isn't bandwidth, it's that weird mySQL bug that casues us to accumulate too many connections or something (others can explain it better).
Here's what I was wondering: Can't we, under our dedicated server, "sublet" space to other people? We could greatly reduce the cost of keeping the current plan if we let some buffistas use aomw of our space and charge them for it.
Now proffered for your beta-testing enjoyment, the ~ma map.
How things work:
Enter and send your Buffista name. Select the Buffista you want to send ~ma to from the list. (The list appears after you send your name.) Press "~send ma". Voila.
The "Release ~ma" button releases all the ~ma that has been sent to you. If you want to send ~ma to someone after your one, sole, only ~ma-ray has been sent to someone, just do so. The last target does not have to release for you to redirect.
(It will probably be 24 hours or so before I check back.)
eta: link fixed
Linky no work, Gus. But dude, it sounds cool.
Fixed link. Late for work. Yikes!
USA only. sulks
Interesting idea, Gus, though I'm not sure if ~ma really conforms to computable rules.
Yeah. ~ma just is.
Uh-oh. Checking in 12 hours later to see that one person has actually sent ~ma on the map (Waves at Liese). Either it is broken in some way that does not show in the logs, or interest is very low.
If the former, somebody bitch about what happened, please. If the later ... oh well. It was a fun little lunchtime project, anyway.
Gus, I was confused. I have entered my location (near Boston) on previous maps, but didn't see me there this time, and so didn't send any ~ma, because I was afraid I would somehow break your glorious invention.
Also? The dog ate my homework.
Gus, I couldn't make it work, and I don't know if that's me or that Opera on my home computer wasn't compatible with it.
