Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

You'd also have to clearly separate or conflate IH and FG -- Kristen doesn't go into the server room, ever. But Steven can, I'd guess.

I'm not sure what refund conditions other hosts give, but I've never been in a position to exercise them, even when totally dicked over.

I don't like the idea.

Religion isn't the cause of wars. It's the excuse. - Christopher Brookmyre

Some stuff you just have to take on good faith, surely. 60 days isn't that long.

Well, to my way of thinking, you'd be giving me 60 days notice because you were dissatisfied with service and/or performance. Altering the TOS to include that clause is not something I would be comfortable doing. And honestly, it's not an unheard of requirement. Most hosting companies require some advance notice of account termination.

On the performance end, the best I could offer would be some kind of rebate for unscheduled downtime that is not the accountholder's fault. The details on that policy will need to be discussed with Monique before I commit to anything.

Regarding the water issue, you can read all about the network and the data center here. If you have any further questions after reading, I'd be happy to pass those on to Steven. Obviously, if someone spilled something into a cabinet and shorted us out, it would be repaired and you'd be credited for the downtime.

Calli: My people have a saying. A man who trusts can never be betrayed, only mistaken.Avon: Life expectancy among your people must be extremely short.

Also 60 days is not unreasonable even in a worst case scenario. In a move we'd probably need that time to find and move to a new service. It took us that much time to find and move to a news even when hr was dicking us around.

One of my concerns at this point is that if we stay and prove as big pita to her in the new circumstances as we were to Steve in the old, we end up straining a friendship. If we move to a big place where we don't have a strong personal friendship there are advantages as well as disadvantages. The relationship is strictly business and we don't have to worry as much about hurting our hosts feelings. It's not an overwhelming concern because Kristen is willing to take the risk. But it is a concern, because a certain amount of conversation that really was not out of line from a business point of view managed to hurt her deeply.

move out and draw fire

Finally got a chance to catch up. My .02 cents:

1) I will contribute money.
2) I will contribute non-monetary compensation in the form of paintings, comics, brownies, toys or whatever to the Geekies.
3) If the offer from FG allows us to resolve the MySQL connections problem, let's stay.
4) I could move a site to FG, if it would help.
5) If we have to leave FG, we pay for what we've already received.

Go with dog.

(edit: only 3 tries to post successfully today!)

4) I could move a site to FG, if it would help.

That is an interesting notion. I looked for profile addy's for Monique or Kristen to inquire about this option but didn't find them. There are a number of us here that pay for hosted sites that might be interested in moving.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

That is an interesting notion.

That was a part of Kristen's original offer. Once we're settled in on the new server, she's willing to let other Bufistas have a Fangeek account, the cost of which would directly offset b.org's $200/month.

Laura, if you have any question after looking at the post that Jon linked to, you can reach me at support AT fangeek.com.

One of my concerns at this point is that if we stay and prove as big pita to her in the new circumstances as we were to Steve in the old, we end up straining a friendship.

I know that this was a concern back in April when we first talking about FG hosting you guys. I honestly think that, if that were going to happen, it would have happened already. I do think that hosting y'all gets easier when I am in a position to actually make decisions or take action, as opposed to just being the monkey in the middle. I also think that I feel more a part of this place than I did before I started hosting you. I know that I post more.

I was upset the other night. Though, in fairness, I also almost cried over this OnStar radio commercial. Given that hurt feelings blew over fairly quickly, it's entirely possible that I was PMSing. I can't promise that no one's going to upset me down the road. But I'll be better about sleeping on it before whining here.

Our wings are not tired.

Insent Kristen. I have a couple sites that I can move over there easily that use about 2% of the bandwidth allowed. I hadn't seen that post before.

Laura, FYI - we never received anything.
