Buffistas Building a Better Board
Do you have problems, concerns or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
To-do list
4) I could move a site to FG, if it would help.
That is an interesting notion. I looked for profile addy's for Monique or Kristen to inquire about this option but didn't find them. There are a number of us here that pay for hosted sites that might be interested in moving.
That is an interesting notion.
That was a part of Kristen's original offer. Once we're settled in on the new server, she's willing to let other Bufistas have a Fangeek account, the cost of which would directly offset b.org's $200/month.
Laura, if you have any question after looking at the post that Jon linked to, you can reach me at support AT fangeek.com.
One of my concerns at this point is that if we stay and prove as big pita to her in the new circumstances as we were to Steve in the old, we end up straining a friendship.
I know that this was a concern back in April when we first talking about FG hosting you guys. I honestly think that, if that were going to happen, it would have happened already. I do think that hosting y'all gets easier when I am in a position to actually make decisions or take action, as opposed to just being the monkey in the middle. I also think that I feel more a part of this place than I did before I started hosting you. I know that I post more.
I was upset the other night. Though, in fairness, I also almost cried over this OnStar radio commercial. Given that hurt feelings blew over fairly quickly, it's entirely possible that I was PMSing. I can't promise that no one's going to upset me down the road. But I'll be better about sleeping on it before whining here.
Insent Kristen. I have a couple sites that I can move over there easily that use about 2% of the bandwidth allowed. I hadn't seen that post before.
Laura, FYI - we never received anything.
I'd rather go with Kristen and Monique because they're friends, and I'd rather we give our money to someone we love and trust than to someone we just trust, or we just hope we can trust.
(That's my two cents, which is, in tech speak, rather worse for rate of exchange than the yen to the dollar.)
I vote we go with FanGeek too, both because we know and trust Kristen and because it looks like enough people will be taking up the hosting offer that our costs will be significantly reduced in the long run. Also, the idea of "Buffista hosting" (if we can brand it that way!) is just a financial model I really like; it gives people a way of contributing while also getting something for themselves. I'd take it up myself if I wanted hosting (as I may some time in the future).
The board, she is funny, and I like her, because she gets that time is relative.
Plei ( Cindy "Natter 17 = 4² - cos(π): Nilly — Could This Be Mathier?" Oct 26, 2003 1:42:11 am PST ) posted before I woke, this morning. Now, obviously, Plei's post must have been submitted at the 1:51 that happened before the time change, because it was about 4ish, Eastern (with time change taken into account), when I came to the board, yet the post was already there. Also? We're sharing post numbers.
Then I posted, and the board looked at the time, and inserted my post ( Cindy "Natter 17 = 4² - cos(π): Nilly — Could This Be Mathier?" Oct 26, 2003 1:42:11 am PST )
before Plei's,
even though Plei's post existed about 50 minutes before mine.
I don't think it's a problem, per se; I just think it's an innovative way of handling the time change. I wonder if I post again before we get to 1:51 board time, what will happen.
Laura, FYI - we never received anything
It got kicked back. I sent a message to support at fangeek dot com.
I just sent it again with the errors included. I'm not on my own computer, so if it gets kicked back again I'll just wait until I am home.
Also, what Angus said.
eta: yeah kicked back again, administrative prohibition. Maybe has to do with the system I am on at the moment. later...
So, is the verdict Fangeek?
