Seriously though, why would we want a bigger drive and more memory? Aren't we still better off with iStrata?
These are really the crucial (and only answerable, imo) questions.
If the issue is connections vs money, does the additional hardware close the gap sufficiently between what we have now and what we want?

If only we agreed on what we wanted. Extra memory gives us more room we can use if we run up major connections. Extra HD, not so much.

Well, the more memory makes the server faster and to my way of thinking, a faster server processes queries faster which leaves connections open for a shorter span of time which allows for less overlap of connections used. But, admittedly, I could be wrong about that. More storage would give you more extra space to sell off to friends and relatives and let you reduce your costs even further.

I honestly don't know. Their numbers are so very much lower than everyone else out there. I don't understand how they provide a truly managed dedicated server for that price. And it's one of those situations where we probably won't know unless we try and something goes wrong and there's, like, no backup.
Fruity Pebbles:
We have an extension until Thursday.

I mentioned upthread that I received a similar offer today from Hostway.

The Thursday deadline is great, Kristen. Thanks!
My opinions on the matter are mixed. Dealing with Kristen and Steve is a known quantity, but iStrata looks like a better deal for our needs -- at least on paper. I share Kristen's suspicions. There's lots of stuff that isn't spelled out on their web page. I was particularly surprised that I couldn't find an AUP anywhere on their site.

But, whether or not the extras are shiny, isn't Steve's offer what we want? We're getting (if I've got it right) no limit on the number of SQL connections we're allowed to have. Which means Kristen can take out the measure that prevents us from going over our allowed number of connections, so we won't be getting the error message. Why we're going over our connection limit with virtually zero traffic would still be nice to find out, but it takes the urgency away. And when we need something technical done to the server, and ask Kristen, she can just go and do it, instead of going to our hosts and trying to get them to do it.
Do we want other technical things, or are the money and commitment the main issues?
And, yay for the Thursday deadline!

I don't know them but I thought ita had bad experiences with their customer support?
I'm biased, I know. But the reason I'm biased is because I know Kristen and Monique would never fuck me over. And having confidence that the person who provides a 24/7 service like a server will not fuck me over is worth the price.
I've gladly handed checks to Kristen and Monique for years for all kinds of services, and have never regretted it.
This is part of the reason that these women are my friends, I prize competence so highly.
So, I'm for staying Fangeek/IH side.
