A week sounds good. At which time we can figure out the next part of the timetable.
Buffistas Building a Better Board
Do you have problems, concerns or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
Yeah, we should be able to hash something out by then.
Since we really aren't using our alloted bandwidth and resources, and it does seem to be more of an MSQL error, how much would buying a higher support level for what we do have cost in relation to the cost of a whole new package?
Is it really more of a matter of them not wanting to spend more time on us because we are needy?
On the other hand, And I'm not really trying to be difficult here, it seems like we are the diner who has sent back cold food three times and is asked to leave. It doesn't appear to be our fault, but rather than taking a minute to reheat the plate, the staff of the diner says 'too much trouble, tell them to pay more or leave." Which is what it feels like, sometimes, when i read the commentaries. Sure we are asking a lot of questions, but that's a curve. A cafe or eatery has lots of people who are very low maintenence, and a few high maintence, it all balances out.
Basically, I guess we should be glad they are asking us to pay for more service, tanstaafl, but it seems to me that it would have been easier and less time consuming for them to restart mysql than to come up with alternate plans and offers. Sure we have made a lot of demands, but most of them appear to be not really our issue so much as an issue with something on their side.
I guess I feel like I went to a buffet with 40 old people who eat mac & cheese and butterscotch pudding, and being told the buffet will cost me more because I'm the fat guy. The 40 people eating $1 worth of food at a $7 buffet helps offset the one guy paying $7 for $9 worth of food.
OTOH, other places? took our plates away without real warning and tried to hold us at knifepoint to pay a lot more to eat what we bought, so some discourse is better than none.
And I like the week idea, I think my fears are probably unjustified and I'm reacting to the the time crunch imposed earlier.
I really do appreciate everything being done by all, and I'm probably being over dramatic, as is my custom.
Sorry for the rambling, I'm going to go away now and take a nap.
Just to chime in on the money issue (and this applies no matter which option we go for), a smoothly running and accessible Phoenix board is worth a LOT more than $24 a year to me, for the entirely selfish reason that I'd prefer to pay the money to our webhost than to the loony bin I'd doubtless be committed if you folks weren't around to chat and blow off steam with.
...taanstafl... (ETA: anything)

It's tanstaafl. (Because I have nothing better to do with my not-so-free time.)

I think that we're more like the diner who sends the food back several times while all the other diners eat the same food without complaint. So the cook doesn't know if it's the food or if it's us, and after three times back they don't much care anymore because they can't meet the needs of the other diners while worrying about our one dish.
ETA: And I scoff in your general revisionist-editing direction because you can't change the quote. In fact, in my quote I could make you say anything. See? And in my quote we're beltless.
*whispering*
You know, the board went down completely for me about twenty minutes ago for a little while, and now that it's back, I'm not getting the error anymore. Did something happen?
...yeah, never mind.
You know what I like? I like the fact that we're not afraid to talk about it on here, talk about our options, as opposed to when we were thinking about leaving HostSuckit, we were all coy and talking elsewhere about it.
Well, I think it's a matter of being treated respectfully as customers even if the news we hear from our ISP isn't the sort we'd prefer to be hearing. Whatever our decision, I don't get the impression that we have to gather our stuff and move in the dead of night like deadbeat renters whose landlord is threatening to change the locks.

It's called a typo. fixed it.
