Hmm. Why don't we start with the modified #1? Zip and move Natters, leaving showthreads?
The problem with any synching, PMM, is that as far as I can tell, it has to be manual. As in not even with your average web app (since most hosts only allow programs running on their servers to access their DB).
Why is it more important for the Show Threads to be searchable?
t /genuinely curious
Not to be searchable, Jon. I think my point is to leave them to leave the Nilly and Promo breakdowns intact.

While that wasn't the point, pondering the question makes me think that the Show Threads are more valuable (okay, I hate the word too) in terms of board discussion (it was our genesis, and is still much of our core), and I'm more likely to search them than the others. But that's just my pattern.

I get desire to keep the Nilly links working, but Promo breakdowns? How do they fit into the mix?
Oh wait. Those don't link to anything.
Need more coffee.
t nevermind.
No worries, PM. Also, maybe this is obvious, but if we go with a version of option 2, we can code the existing Nillylinks so that if a thread is closed, the link redirects to the correct NAME tag in the archived version. In other words, we don't have to change the HREF tag within Nillytown itself.
I'm in favor of option 3. But I want us to be workable. So for me, the big thing is identifying the causes of the current problem of server overload and the anticipated future problems of space. I also hope that we're able to retain a cohesive site, and pay for additional necessary room if we can, rather than branch out to individuals' sites.
I like option 1, and think the Nilly links should be left as is, but turned into plain text, so that people can download the zipped thread, check Nillytown for the post #, and find it using Crtl-F.
