while I can see the trek reference bothers you, I doubt he transcribes with search engines in mind

Oh yeah but that's going too far. If he describes Buffy's expression as "pissed off" where Joss had put "exasperated" then that's OK, but when he's trying to be funny and clever, and he's writing

I have merely transcribed what appeared on my screen, with help from the closed captions.

at the top, he's making me mad.

But I'm just mad because I only logged in to say I couldn't find my tape of The Zeppo. It's at work. But I know I'm right. But I can't prove it.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

John, I'm with you on this one (about this particular quote) and I'll check to see if I still have that tape in the morning.

But yeah, confirmation before making changes is a good thing.

I say, Tyler, you're thinking of vampires.

FWIW, I saw the quote a while ago and thought what John thought, but didn't say anything. I'm not up for downloading the ep to confirm my recall of it, though.

No other candidate is asking the hard questions, like "Did geophysicists assassinate Jim Henson?" or "Why is there hydrogen in America's water supply?" --defective yeti

If we ever get the caching thing set up, we should send an e-mail to SpikeMe to see if that fixes her problems.

Roguish Laird

OK, I've seen the episode umpteen times and John is definitely right. There is a tiny pause but that's a typical Xander mannerism. It's like "Jimmy Olsen jokes're...pretty much going to be lost on you". It's DEFINITELY not "Sir".

Swouncing

The new feature, where we can set the number of posts per page? The one I thought I was silly enough to skip its announcement and therefore accidentally discovered only this morning, but only by skimming here discovered that it's actually brand new?

Well, it rocks. Like a thing that rocks. Thank you, ever so much, all those who are involved with bettering this already wonderful place.

[Edit: and not-native-English-listener-me have always heard that line the way John and co do, FWIW.]

Is that Narrative Causality or Historical Imperative or just plain weird?

The Zeppo DVD subtitles agree with John, and FWIW, my ears do too. Now I must nap, for it is exhausting being noble enough to watch Buffy before work.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Quote updated.

John -- forgot to give you this for your coding:

class Quote {
var $id;
var $char; // character saying the quotation
var $quote; // quotation text
var $season; // quotation season
var $episode; // episode number
var $title; //episode title
}

Thanks, for both of those things.

Hey, in the table you showed me yesterday, the

show_name

thing, is that just a y/n which determines whether the character's names come up, to solve that blank-character-name, tautologous-character-name thing, or am I missing something?

Ah, yes. Show name is part of the join between episode and quotes -- A for Angel and B for Buffy.
