I haven't formally tested this, but the one time it happened to me, after I got the fatal error, I hit "refresh", and my post posted!

Do you have problems, concerns or recommendations about the technical side of the Phoenix? Air them here. Compliments also welcome.
Ahhh. next time will try the Jon B refresh trick.
All bugs aside, I have to say I like this place.
229 people who've posted at least once. I don't know where they all came (back) from, but I'm glad they did.
I'm itching for another "from where? when?" survey.
edit: and maybe if I spent less time posting and more coding ... at the moment I top the poster list, with more than 400 more posts than the next person.
Ah, well.
more than 400 more posts than the next person.
Holy Post-holio, Batman!
Not naming names, but the top post counts at last tally are 3116, 2690, 2605, 1563, 1480, 1388, 1376, 1340, 1317, 1208, 1180, 1158, 1146, 1122, 981, 947, 879, 835 ...
Think how much more krav I could have been doing instead of posting!
I have a proposal.
- What's your proposal, John?
That we create an interactive online Buffy Trivia Quiz here.
- Please explain in more detail?
Well, a year or so ago I created a Buffy Trivia quiz, at [link] -- I did it as part of a learning-CGI process, and also because there really weren't that many good quizzes out there.
Mostly they were terrible ones created by teenagers with multiple mis-spellings, blue text on dark purple backgrounds, and errors. Also some of the questions weren't Buffy questions at all, they were questions like "WHICH TEAM WAS CHARIMSA CARPENTER A CHEERLAEDER FOR???"
I like to think I got a certain Buffista-like snarkiness into the multiple-choices which makes the test more fun to use.
- So why should we make a new one?
- Because there are only 100 questions, and once you've taken it, that's it.
- Because there's only one way to take the quiz, linearly.
- Because the questions are out of date and hardly mention anything after series four
- Because the implementation is flat-text-file, not database, meaning you can't do things like categorise the questions for people who, say, haven't seen season six yet, or who think they're the world's leading authority on Faith
- What features would the new quiz have then?
Well I imagined it would have a lot of questions, maybe as many as a thousand. I came up with a hundred myself, it's not totally unrealistic.
The questions would also be in our SQL database, and easily categorised by things like season number, character, and maybe special categories like "Monsters of the Week" or "Dream Sequence-a-rama!"
This would mean that you could take mock-tests like a "Diploma In Season Four", or a "Certificate of Xanderology" and maybe we could award people little gifs as a certificate -- "I got my PhD in Cleavagy-Slut-bomb Studies from the Buffista Quiz" the way all those annoying "which skin disease are you?" websites do.
- But really, a
thousand?
OK two thoughts on that. One is that people would volunteer to come up with questions on a certain topic, character, season, whatever. If you've just bought the season four box set, you're going to watch it anyway, right? Make a few notes! Or you can adopt a character or topic and volunteer to come up with the definitive "Unlucky In Love: Buffy's Boyfriends from A to R" set of questions.
The other is, the Christmas holidays are coming up, for those of us in Christian countries anyway, so it might be a fun project/parlour game/thing to do on the long winter evenings?
Making up snarky multiple-choice answers is fun too. I always had at least one which was just plain silly and obviously not correct.
- You're going to do the programming?
Not unless nobody else wants to. It'd be a useful PHP project for all the people who would like to learn more and make themselves more useful as coders and backup people for ita in general. It would need two different interfaces, one for taking the quizzes and another for admin, entering and editing questions; plus there's some interesting but non-serious security questions about cheating.
- Any negatives you can foresee?
Well if we do host it here, and we attract a lot of people by making it public, some of them might not be much fun. Plus bandwidth issues? I'll happily put it on my site instead.
- Any demands, seeing as it's your idea?
I want to be the Editor of Questions, just to try and make sure the thing has an overall unity of tone and phrasing etc.
And I think the questions should really be limited to the Jossverse, not things about the actors' lives outside it.
Name names, ita! Curious minds want to know.
Whatever happened to the episode database idea? That was bubbling around in the back of my head as the learn-PHP idea. Not that quiz is worse.
Kat, you had 1340.
Kat, you had 1340.
Holy Moly, that's a lot of posts.
And I'm 8th!! No way. Hard to believe.
