Centering to the line of links would be perfect, those come up centered on my machine.

I can deal either way, but if we're getting a choice, centering works. I like that design, becuase the horizontal line just below the posts gives the eye the expectation that things could change. The link bar looks just a tad odd being the only thing centered.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

Yikes! For about 4 or 5 minutes, I couldn't connect to any part of Buffistas.org -- message center, main page, etc. -- and when I did, I got this message:

October 30, 2002, 1:07 pm Steph L.[73]: ERROR [2] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) line 69 of file /home/buffist/public_html/classes/giles.php

October 30, 2002, 1:07 pm Steph L.[73]: ERROR [2] MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) line 69 of file /home/buffist/public_html/classes/giles.php

There has been an error. It's of the type we call fatal. Please don't be scared. You're not the one that's going to die.

Okay, where the $$&#&(@#& are the developers?

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, me too:

October 30, 2002, 1:08 pm Jesse[8]: ERROR [2] Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) line 69 of file /home/buffist/public_html/classes/giles.php

Also, I'm not sure how I feel yet about the moved posting box -- change is hard! -- or the colored thread name. I LOVE having the thread name there, though.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Yeah, same here.

hip deep in pie

Ditto for me.

God I love this message. Can I use it in my own software?

Likewise, on the errors.

Add me in. IE 5.5 on Win98 on a dial-up server (love surfing from home)

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Those errors mean that either the database server went down, or the host dropped the connection to it.

Making note, keeping track, and noticing I'm always working during those errors. Maybe it's my attention that keeps Hostrocket running.

No other candidate is asking the hard questions, like "Did geophysicists assassinate Jim Henson?" or "Why is there hydrogen in America's water supply?" --defective yeti

For a balanced look at the bottom of the page, either the "Buffistas Home | FAQ | etc" line should be aligned with the posts, or the posting box should move back to the left.
