Shit's all sorts of different now.

$35/gallon for urea? Give me a tank and a glass of water.

Glad someone got it back to you!

I had something kinda odd happen as the grocery store. I was putting stuff on the converyor, and there was this wee little old lady behind me, harumphing and looking generally annoyed with the world. As I'm putting some refridged alfredo sauce on the belt, she snaps at me "That's not kosher!" I just sort of blinked and said "I'm not jewish?" And she harumphed some more.

I have no idea if alfredo is kosher or not, but it was just so odd.

I've felt oddly off all day, not sure what's up.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

It must be all the treyf.

I have started the no-knead bread, and now I can't wait until tomorrow! And I realized after the fact that I didn't need to buy any more flour, since I had plenty in the house, so if this works out, I may be doing this much more often.

Yay bread!

I'm debating going out and covering my windshield with a tarp. I think I should. It's easier that hacking at ice..... bleah.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

That's very odd, sarameg. (I have maybe once or twice dealt with the harrumphing old ladies, but it's always when I was in a very Jewish neighborhood and wearing or doing something that in some way made it clear I was Jewish.)

I have no idea if alfredo is kosher or not, but it was just so odd.

Most alfredo isn't kosher, though there are probably one or two brands that are.

Also, what time of day was this? Because if it was more than a few minutes ago, and it happened today, then she was violating Shabbos by shopping in the first place.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

Kathy, that's awesome! How do you feel? Can you tell any differences, like increased energy, sleeping better, able to slay vampires?

Not quite up to doing any staking (yet!), but when I was cleaning the apartment this morning in advance of my dad's visit, I decided to forgo the Clorox wand when scrubbing the tub and knelt down to attack it with Comet. For the past few years, whenever I knelt all my body weight was concentrated right at large fat deposits on my calves, producing really bad pain. But, when I knelt this morning, no pain!! So, I must have less fat there than the measurements reflect.

I'm losing the weight from the outside in (the effects of having an apple body shape), so the hips are the first things to go. When Dad and I went to see Casino Royale this afternoon, I was able to fit into the rather small seats at the bargain theater much better than when I was there last December.

We went out for lunch before the movie, and even though I at first was thinking about getting a chicken club sandwich, Dad suggested a better option, so we both got baked onion soup (I avoided as much of the cheese and bread as I could and stuck with the onions and broth) and split a caesar salad. I only took about half a salad plate of the salad, but did split two small loaves of onion bread with Dad (warm, oniony, yummy!!). I'll make sure I do some floor exercises and stomach crunches tonight to make up for that lunch.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Congrats, Kathy!

I haven't had any strawberries for a while. I think they'll come into season around here in a couple of months, and then I'll gorge myself on them. Mmmmmm.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Jesse, have you followed some of the discussion here and elsewhere about that bread? You'll want to add more salt than the recipe calls for.

Hil, it was before sunset, so I have no idea. Well, except there are wide variations in adherence. (There were also some guys buying gargantuan boxes of matzo ahead of me.) I do live on the edge of B'more main jewish neighborhood and there are a lot of retirement and assisted living places within, so the whole slightly-off old jewish lady wasn't something that new.

The groceries around here have huge kosher sections. I was reading the other day that there is an excellent (and kosher) butcher shop just around the corner from me. Of course, I don't know the difference in cuts outside a chicken, so I'd not know how to take advantage of that.
