Spike's Bitches 34: They're All Slime and Antlers

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Art Crawl!!!

SMG (SGM - what was I thinking?) looks really good and I had NO IDEA that she and Lee Pace were starring in a movie together.

SMG looks lovely. The dress... err. NSM.

Hmmm. I missed a couple of episodes this season, although not many. Was there one where the Baddy of the Week went after the damsel and she kicked its ass? Without her being a Baddy in disguise?

The one with Linda Blair (Usual Suspects) fits that, and I thought Jo did pretty well for herself in No Exit--and again when she rescued Dean in Born Under a Bad Sign. Ava in Hunted, too. And while Ellen's husband was a hunter and died, she doesn't read to me as just an aware victim--the Hunt Initiation Chart gives her credit for at least a couple of the hunts this season. She's not a hunter, but she does gather and pass on info. (Which could mean she's working for the Mandroid, of course.)

But even back in S1, the women tended to acquit themselves well--see Wendigo and Asylum. It's far from perfect, but does better than I'd have expected on watching the pilot, or even on watching the first half of S1. (Which may have something to do with the growing number of women writers and creative types working on the show.)

Now tagless for your comfort.

I agree. For a guy-centered show (despite Dean's status as girliest girl in Girldonia), it never struck me as testosterone heavy. We're through Bugs (no damsels there). I'm patiently waiting for our next DVD.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

To me Buffy should always be blonde, but SMG should always be a brunette. I realize that probably only makes sense in my head.

In my head, too.

How great is it that SMG's collarbone isn't all poking out? Makes me very happy.

WOO!

IIRC, Bugs is 1x08, which means the shit, as it were, is about to hit the motherfucking fan.

To which I say, DUDE!!!!

Also, that between 1x09 and 1x22, the only less-than-stellar episode is 1x13. Which, umm. Well. Dean takes his shirt off? That's like redemption, right?

(And, okay, 1x13 also inspired one of the better pieces of pre-series I've read in the fandom. And if you look at it just for character insights, it's kind of forgivable. Sort of. Maybe. It probably seemed like a good idea at the time. Because the writers had smoked ALL THE CRACK.)

Bugs was the weakest ep of this batch--but the Bloody Mary, Skin and Hook Man were so fucking awesome, I hardly noticed. I am definitely excited for the rest of them.

Which reminds me...has anyone seen Ailleann today?

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Ah. I haven't seen the "Usual Suspects" episode. I'll have to keep an eye out for it this summer. The thing with Jo is that she seemed to want to join the guys as a hunter, but ends up needing rescue. She didn't go all, "Save me oh knightly one" about it, but she still ended up going off by herself, getting stuck in a cage, and needing the guys to get her out. A spunky take on the classic teenage girl in a horror film. And then when Evol!Sam runs into her in Duluth, she ends up tied up and needing Dean to rescue her. Yes, she helped him afterward, but she still came off as damsely to me in that episode. And Ellen seems much more oriented toward support. I haven't seen her threaten anyone except for the guys when they went off with Jo. So far I've seen her talk, serve drinks, and take care of her daughter. I'm waiting for the woman who can hold her own in the guys' world the way that Bobby and the other hunters do.

The show isn't obnoxious about it. It's built around the brothers as heros and PoV characters, and they're gonna do the majority of kicking ass, rescuing, suffering nobly/amusingly, and being cool. And I'm happy to watch them do that. The show doesn't really need a lot of other characters being kickass and heroic, because that's Sam and Dean's job. If everyone else could do it they wouldn't need to wander the continent in the Metallicar.

But I still want to see them to try to rescue someone like Faith. Guess that's why we have fic.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

hm, my period's next week.

Also, yeah, there was sex yesterday, which kicked it into hyperdrive. Sadly I have no benadryl.

Is the ointment just dumb? It doesn't seem to be helping much but I feel like I need to do something. But I think that thing will be going to bed because I don't have the energy for anything else.

I should call the dr. tomorrow, right? visits are free and they are on campus!
