[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Happy birthday Beverly!

Kristin, much health~ma to your mother and an extra dose of long-distance coping~ma to you.

Yes, I am at work on President's Day. I get the first day of hunting season off, but not today or Veterans' Day. There's something wrong with that.

Sometimes I think I might just move up to Vermont, open a bookstore or a vegan restaurant. Adam Schlesinger, z''l

Happy Birthday, Beverly!

I officially have today off, but I'm going to have to go into my office this afternoon to do some grading.

Any DCistas have an eye doctor recommendation? I just realized that my "Hmm, probably need a new prescription soon" has become "Can't see the TV unless I'm sitting four feet away from it."

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Happy birthday, Beverly!

Yay for more babies!

Happy Year of the Golden Pig!

Wow, I sound cheerful.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

I'm at work, too. I could have taken it off, but meh. Though - first day of hunting season?? WTF?

Yup. It's a UAW-negotiated holiday and non-UAW folks get the same holidays. Oh, and to add to teh CRAXY, it's the first day of hunting season in MI. I work in DC.

The rationale is that the plants would effectively be shut down anyway, due to everyone calling off, so why not just give us the holiday and be done with it?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

I have a better idea. Just have everybody bring their guns to work and release the deer in the plants....

That sounds like a Ray Bradbury story.

DH went to work, and only discovered midway through his commute that some of the buses he usually takes are on a holiday/weekend schedule, and some are not running at all. Whoops. His building is closed, but the office is open, which confuses the hell out of me, but is apparently normal.

Huh. That's... annoying.

At least here, the trains and buses run on regular weekday schedules on days like today that are only holidays for some.

What would you call days like today? that aren't quite first-rate holiday like Christmas and Thanksgiving and July 4th? I guess the term "bank holiday" sorta' covers it, as you don't usually hear that term describing the first-string holidays....

It's a federal holiday, right? That's only partially observed. Which is, when I stop to think about it, pretty weird. Always strange when there's no mail on a workday.

Eta: he usually takes a free shuttle and just had to switch to taking municipal transit that was on a normal schedule, so can't complain too much. Free services get leeway for being capricious.
