Do you have carbon monoxide detectors?
Please. We barely have heat. This house is so old, and my FiL needs a crank to open his wallet. We could buy them, I know, but money is a big issue for us right now. Leaky faucets, a hole in the kitchen ceiling, wonky electrical -- all of it can be ignored, according to FiL.

In so-far-not-blowed-up news, the Anna Nicole thing is so weird to me. All these men claiming to be the baby's father when it's still not clear that Anna Nicole would keep that inheritance (and therefore make her baby the beneficiary)? Or am I missing something? I thought the inheritance was still in dispute.
The inheritance is in dispute. Not only that but there's a good chance she's not married to her "husband" the lawyer and the last thing I read they weren't sure about her will, so if she is married to the lawyer and depending on what the will says he could end up being the heir to the fortune rather than her daughter (according to what I read in the paper).
Also some of how this will play out depends on the laws of where she had her residence, which is another cloudy issue.

plots kidnapping amyliz family and spiriting them to Florida
Poor Anna Nicole will apparently stay in the news for some time. The real mystery is why I keep skimming the mentions of the ongoing drama.

my dad and i think something's fishy with her lawyer!husband. first her son dies of an apparent drug overdose and now her? making who he claims to be his daughter the beneficiary of all that MO-ney. fishy.
(i don't actually know if the inheritance is still in dispute.)

See askye's post. I think the last I heard she had won the right to appeal the courts' decision, not the actual money.
Amy, the smell thing is making me worried for you. Is your husband home. Can he investigate if the smell is coming from your b-i-l's room?
Oh yeah, Stephen's here. BiL has the door to his room blocked -- you can see something under the crack. I think it's just an ottoman, though. He generally sleeps until 10:30 or 11, of course, because, you know, NO JOB for twenty-five years (which is a whole other rant).
I told Stephen, either wake him up or call the gas company, because the smell is really making me nauseous now, even with the window cracked (in the 6 degree weather).
Amy, if you're nauseated--call the gas company immediately! Even if it turns out to be nothing, don't take any chances.
Amy, what Cashmere said. Whether it's from your bil's heater or the household furnace,
if there's a real problem,
(I'm not saying there is -- but if there is) you'll start to lose your judgment. Don't mess around with this, honey.
I'm glad Stephen is there. He can hold BiL while you smack him around. Let us know when (very soon) this is resolved.
