It's not like she blew me off. She just left with another guy, that's all.

[NAFDA] Spike-centric discussion. Lusty, lewd (only occasionally crude), risque (and frisque), bawdy (Oh, lawdy!), flirty ('cuz we're purty), raunchy talk inside. Caveat lector.

30 degrees this morning in Pasadena

This morning I had to take side streets into work through Manhattan Beach. There was frost/ice on roofs, lawns and cars. The worst was the ice in the gutters. CRAZY! Below 32 in in beachy LA? BRRRR!

75% loss of the citrus and avocado crop

Strawberries too.. very sad! The estimates I saw were a total loss of all Valencia oranges, and 70 to 75% of the navel oranges and lemons. A lot of the oranges in markets in the US come from CA so grab 'em now, 'cause in a couple of weeks they might be hard to find.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

sj, do you know what his BP and cholesterol levels are?

No, he took the results with him to work, because he was taking it with him to his appointment, but they were both listed as borderline high.

See, "borderline" is really iffy. My cholesterol is borderline high, but despite my family history, age, and big fat ass, my doctor hasn't put me on meds. He most definitely isn't blowing it off, either; I have my cholesterol tested every 6 months. But for now he thinks I'm fine w/o meds.

TCG really, truly might be fine w/o meds.

t edit I know you're just concerned because you love him, which is as it should be. But depending on what the numbers are, he really might not need meds.

This isn't quite what I'd call Jilliesque, but now I really need proper Jilli wrapping paper.

There's always Edward Gorey gift wrap; [link]

And for some reason, I really like this b&w floral wrap from the Container Store: [link]

sj, your hubby would be better off with lifestyle changes than drugs. The statin drugs used for cholesterol lowering have some potential side-effects which, while unlikely, made me decide not to go that route.

Steph and I can tell evangelize one serving of oatmeal a day for lowering your cholesterol by about 10%.

The nice HR lady has read my e-mail - or so my read-receipt says. But no response. sigh. I know nothing happens fast around here. I know this position was a long shot to begin with. Even so, sigh.

Yeah, see, I'm above Borderline and into Severe but I'm losing cholesterol via lifestyle changes. It's slower but I feel the better for it. Still, I should add the caveat that I stopped being a fan of drugs some years back and only take the pill-popping route if there's no other option.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Thanks, Teppy. I appreciate your feedback, and I know that you really want to stay off of meds. I just feel that when there is a strong family history and not much room for improvement fitness-wise (although I do intend to slightly modify the way I have been cooking), that meds really are the way to go. His grandfather died in his early sixties, and I have informed TCG that he is not allowed to go anywhere for at least another 40 years, hopefully longer.

Er, honestly, for people who do truly need the statins, they kick serious fatty ass. They are very, very good at lowering cholesterol, and -- like I said, for those who do truly need them -- they're worth tinkering with the dosage, etc., to deal with side effects.
