Well, the long blurb mentions that, but you only see that on the first page, instead of on every page. A shiny reminder like:
General Announcements
Announcements only. Replies will be deleted.
would be nice.
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.

Should we consider the possibility of having sidebarred threads' long blurbs visible on all pages? We didn't do it for normal threads, cause it annoyed us, TT style, but the sidebar questions come up often enough it might be helpful. (Which announcements go in which thread, where is natter discouraged, deleted, what's the difference between bureaucracy and building, and so forth.)
Good idea, Liese.
Also, it wasn't an announcement - an announcement tells you what it's about. It just said (words to the effect of) Go Here!
Yes, it was an announcement, thank you kindly.
Apparently, my very frequent posts of this nature aren't being read or understood, but frankly, this site is not something I wish to be discussed at long length out in public.
Perhaps I'll simply stop posting the announcements at all, since this seems to be some kind of problem that hasn't been brought to my attention.
I would like to have you continue to post your announcements, shrift.
I'd also like to point out that it's not hard to figure out what to do. If you click on the link, it says:
To gain access to the archive, send an e-mail to passwords@shriftweb.org.
If you want access, do that.
And yeah, it's not something that should be talked about in detail publically, so there's that.
It doesn't answer Anathema's question "Archive of what?", because it's being covert and doesn't want to use the words "sh**ting scrip+". I guess it's a compromise between "The eagle has landed" and clear directions -- just enough that newbies know there's something that might interest them there.

I guess what I'm asking is... how do I find that compromise? I don't know how to word it. The last few weeks have left me pretty brain dead.
Also, I've thought about not posting announcements here because of the whole keeping a low profile thing.

I think I'll mull it over more when I'm not quite so cranky.
You know, as much as I selfishly like the knowing, given the number of lurkers and what not, I think you might be right in wanting to not post notice here.
I say you continue just as you are, shrift. This is yet one more example where people ought to be able to figure out from context, by osmosis, or by reading, as has been pointed out, clear onscreen instructions, what the deal is.
