I don't think we need to have a set maximum number of threads. I also don't think that we really know enough at this point to be able to say what an ideal number would be. I think that if we've got a good process for figuring out when to start a thread, that ought to be enough to keep things under control.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Does this boil down to we built a better mousetrap therefore there are now more mice?

Are you insinuating we're cheesy?

So we operate on the premise that "we don't know what our maximum number of threads it, but ita will know it when she sees it?"

I suppose the essential question to start with is, "Are we currently at our maximum number of threads?" I don't think so, but I think we're getting somewhat close. In my mind, we could handle maybe five more. Other people might feel differently. I don't see any possible way of figuring out what the optimal number would be, so I can't see what good it would do to pick an arbitrary number. The only way to judge is by how people react. We've gone from "More threads! We'll be taking over TT soon!" to "Um, do we really need another thread? Maybe we should figure out what to do," with a few cries of "Too many threads!" I'd say that this is a sign we're getting close to our limit, and I think that it'll be fairly obvious we've reached our limit when most of the "Hey! Let's start an anime thread!" (or whatever) suggestions are met with mostly "No! Too many threads!"

It just occurred to me: I have a link to this board on my website. Are we wanting to limit the numbers of links out there to certain known quantities? Or what? Granted, someone who's on my site is there because of my fic, so by logical extension they might be interested in this site. But is it preferred to limit the number of access points?
