NO PUNS. THIS THREAD IS SACRED.
ack! t scurries away
So we operate on the premise that "we don't know what our maximum number of threads it, but ita will know it when she sees it?"

I suppose the essential question to start with is, "Are we currently at our maximum number of threads?" I don't think so, but I think we're getting somewhat close. In my mind, we could handle maybe five more. Other people might feel differently. I don't see any possible way of figuring out what the optimal number would be, so I can't see what good it would do to pick an arbitrary number. The only way to judge is by how people react. We've gone from "More threads! We'll be taking over TT soon!" to "Um, do we really need another thread? Maybe we should figure out what to do," with a few cries of "Too many threads!" I'd say that this is a sign we're getting close to our limit, and I think that it'll be fairly obvious we've reached our limit when most of the "Hey! Let's start an anime thread!" (or whatever) suggestions are met with mostly "No! Too many threads!"
It just occurred to me: I have a link to this board on my website. Are we wanting to limit the numbers of links out there to certain known quantities? Or what? Granted, someone who's on my site is there because of my fic, so by logical extension they might be interested in this site. But is it preferred to limit the number of access points?
Connie, I think that horse left the barn and has done eight laps around the track. I would not worry about it at this time. Besides, in spite of all the worry some have expressed, at heart we want new people.
I'm just here to apologise for posting about private emails between myself and Schmoker in this public setting. I realise now that doing so was wrong. I won't do it again and I won't email him again.
My post might have been interpreted to mean that I knew, from those emails, some further details about Schmoker that the rest of you don't. I also apologise for having given that impression, and state for the record that I know no more than anyone else: circumstantial similarities between the two posters.
Note:
I would have hoped I could have personally emailed more people to apologize for being a dick, but I got to as many as I could. And I also apologized to John, both here and in private.
Let's go back to our deranged fanboy discussions and stop the rest of the nonsense now, eh? I think everyone feels sufficiently stupid. God knows I do.
John, I'm sorry to hear you feel that way, and I hope you'll be ready to take the Stompy mantle back up someday.
Monique, thanks for the summarization.
I'm not at "Ack! Too many threads!" yet, but I appreciate the problem for people who are in my threads AND Firefly AND Natter AND TTT, none of which I post in. I agree we don't have the resources to become a general TV/entertainment board right now. I do think we may want to cap the number of threads in the future -- but I'm not sure we're at the point where that's necessary just yet. It will make a big difference if Buffy and Angel both end their runs after this season.
