"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

I'm seeing both sides of it.

One hand, faceless stompies is sort of like the appearance of the hooded executioner.

Other hand, hooded executioner would certainly get your attention.

I think it would help if Serious Stomping had its own sort of distinctive format to make it clear that it wasn't just an in-thread objection.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

My feeling about the admin login is that it makes us look like we have more power than we do. Than we should.

I can see that, but isn't the point of an official warning to be official? I think that as long as whoever does it signs the warning, it would be an acceptable use of the ID. The problem I foresee is that if a troll or even a clueless newbie is causing trouble, then they probably haven't read any of the FAQ and etiquette stuff anyway, and won't know that John or ita or Jon or the rest of us are admins.

Up with the sun

I think the "official posts are bold and in red" thing would work, especially if it were announced in the FAQ or etiquette along with a list of Stompies.

My feeling about the admin login is that it makes us look like we have more power than we do. Than we should.

I totally understand the feeling, but my reaction to this is that you would have exactly the power you would be claiming to have -- to act in the board's interests, and provide official warnings on etiquette violations. It's not like admin post = martial law or word of Joss, or anything.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's not like admin post = martial law or word of Joss, or anything.

Which is my point. And why I'd rather go the font route, than the faceless route. Especially for newbies, who might be used to admins with more power than we're implementing.

Wrod.

The faceless route (even signed) just seems wrong to me.

If the preference is for different font over using signed posts from the admin account, that works for me.

But I would suggest that admin-fonted posts start with the statement that the Stompy is speaking officially to avoid the possibility of someone thinking the Stompy just got carried away with their HTML and ignoring the warning.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Perhaps a standard message format for official warnings? A template somewhere that we could just copy and use when necessary, for consistency? Anyway, could it not be red?

Official Stompy Foot Warning Attn: t Problem User

Hiya. It seems that you've violated our community etiquette standards, viewable here. We've tried to resolve it in the context of your posts, but it looks like a problem. Please consider this an official warning that your behavior is not acceptable in this community.

If you amend your behavior, and want to contribute positively to this enviornment, you are a welcome member of this community. However, if you continue to violate our standards or disrespect others, you will be suspended for two months. If you come back unreformed, you will be banned. Banning is rare, and very much a last resort.

To discuss your warning or your situation, please see the bureaucracy thread. Thank you, and we hope to resolve this problem.

t Insert specific info as necessary

- Stompy Foot (Admin) Liese

Something like that, perhaps? For warning text anyway. A simple signoff as admin should do for non-official-warning but acting-in-official-capacity items.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

How about a font like this?

That was done with the (already existing) css class "normal-bold-blood".

t edited because "span" isn't an acceptable tag

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It'll need a shortcut, which we can code to only work if it's an admin.

Is there any sort of format we can do that can't be entered normally?
