Can I just suggest that you'll never catch up in Natter?
That's sort of the reason why we should have Music and Movie threads though. You can only discuss music
if
some other music interested folks are in Natter at that time. However in a dedicated thread with a slower pace you can maintain a conversation with folks on different time schedules and able to maintain a different pace.
Natter is about jumping in and going with the flow. The flow isn't always about music when I want it to be. In a music thread, it would be.
I get frustrated because I know there are folks out there I want to discuss music with that don't hang out in Natter much or aren't there when I am.
I have no problems skipping and skimming
Me neither. What I do find is that I then miss all the good conversations, so I raise a topic and people say "oh, we talked about that before" and I didn't know. If I knew that talk about a movie was to be found in the movie thread, then I could go there and read all of that, before raising my topic. Which would result in feeling stupid less often. (Well, it might. It might just result in posting in the wrong thread more often, but I can hope.)
This is the same big debate that the pancakequistas had in the WX/Atlantic split.
I don't have a problem skipping and skimming in Natter either. In fact, I skip and skim in all threads (read only day of or day after new show airings in show threads) cause natter there bothers me for some reason. I use the search function constantly to find specific topics in all threads. I like Literary and I guess music and movies are really no different. I think we should re-think our Welcome page info then, cause this isn't really just a place to discuss ME shows, in fact, ME show threads might be outnumbered soon. It is a place that generated out of discussion ME shows.
also? How long will the TTT thread stay open? At some point won't it just become natter?

Even though I don't like leaving Natter to discuss books (and music and movies), I actually see the wisdom in having threads for books, music, and movies. Because ME shows -- our purported raison d'etre -- might not exist next year.
Then we're just a bunch of people who like to talk to each other. (Which is actually a good enough reason for me.)

Don't say it! You'll make me cry!
It is, however, possible. I also have a great bucket of wrodcakes for what Hec said about conversations across different time zones.

Sorry, but it may well be true.

Doubtful, since it'll be in theatres for a few more months, and then we'll be waiting for the DVDs, and then RotK, and then the RotK DVDs. That topic's got another year and a half of life in it at least.
I have a feeling we'll end up with both a Movies and a Music thread, and that we'll end up enjoying them in spite of any general distaste for thread proliferation. FWIW.
