And don't you ever stand for that sort of thing. Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back! ... You got the right same as anyone to live and try to kill people.

One last reminder of the Secret Santa project:

Are you interested in giving some worthy Buffista a small holiday gift, and getting one in return?

Email your Buffista handle and a snail-mail address to me at canlibrarian@yahoo.com by midnight PST tomorrow, October 27.

I will match people up by Oct. 31, in order to allow lots of time for present buying/making and mailing.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Okay, I was just made aware of this Buffy scholarly research survey.

We can delete this post if it turns out to be bogus, but it seems ok:

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

This'll be xposted in Press. Firefly is sort of in a precarious place. Waiting until the show reaches a critical level on the cancellation front isn't so wise. There's a postcard campaign in the works to get the word to the network that yo, we don't have Neilson boxes, but we're watching.

Send a postcard or two, simply stating that you're watching, and want the show to stay on the air.

There's also a plan in the works for a Variety ad. Cost will be about 1700. It's important to act in time for sweeps. We're at Code Yellow, so let's get the word out before we reach Red.

For more info, visit JossWhedon.net.

This is an important time for fandom, the net makes it possible for fans to organize, and be heard. Postcards are cheap, and are something that can be counted.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Possibly too trivial for Press, but definitely not apocalyptic enough for Beep Me:

I'm kind of feverish and can't remember which LAista it was who was out searching for actual pink gingham. I found some, two bolts of average pink gingham and one of genuinely pretty rose gingham, for less than $3/yard. If said LAista still wants pink gingham, she can email me at my Yahoo address, j_zahas@yahoo.com, to let me know how much and I'll go out and grab it.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

October 24 was Kate P's birthday.

Happy Belated Birthday, Kate P., from all the Buffistas!!!

Okay, gifter/giftee matching has been done by a highly scientific process (slips of paper drawn out of a hat), and email has been sent to everyone that told me they wanted to participate in Buffista Secret Santa 2002.

We had a great response this year - almost forty Buffistas signed up. Thanks, everyone!

Several people asked if there were any formal guidelines, so here is a completely unofficial statement by me:

  • Considering that we have participants from three countries, there is
no set amount of money to spend. You aren't expected to bankrupt yourself; whatever amount you feel appropriate for an "imaginary friend" is fine.

  • Homemade stuff is particularly appreciated, but by no means necessary.

  • If for some reason you are absolutely unable to get a gift to your
assigned Buffista, LET ME KNOW ASAP and I will try to fix the problem.

For mailing dates:

USAir Parcel Post Surface Australia/New Zealand DEC 16 DEC 16 Nov 6 Canada DEC 16 DEC 16 Nov 23

Canada Post deadlines

And finally, in the immortal words of Krusty the Klown, let me wish you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Kwazy Kwanzaa, a tip-top Tet, and a solemn, dignified Ramadan.

Unsure if this should go here or Apocalypse, since I've never posted in either before, but here goes.

Somervillistas (and surroundings), I'm proposing a Sunday (tentative, or Saturday evening if more people can make it) get-together for, most likely, a viewing of Men With Brooms. If I haven't gotten it yet, then Hard Core Logo instead. I can tentatively invite people to my place, but it's a mess and there aren't many places for people to sit, so counteroffers are welcomed. Profile address good.
