Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

This'll be xposted in Press. Firefly is sort of in a precarious place. Waiting until the show reaches a critical level on the cancellation front isn't so wise. There's a postcard campaign in the works to get the word to the network that yo, we don't have Neilson boxes, but we're watching.

Send a postcard or two, simply stating that you're watching, and want the show to stay on the air.

There's also a plan in the works for a Variety ad. Cost will be about 1700. It's important to act in time for sweeps. We're at Code Yellow, so let's get the word out before we reach Red.

For more info, visit JossWhedon.net.

This is an important time for fandom, the net makes it possible for fans to organize, and be heard. Postcards are cheap, and are something that can be counted.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Possibly too trivial for Press, but definitely not apocalyptic enough for Beep Me:

I'm kind of feverish and can't remember which LAista it was who was out searching for actual pink gingham. I found some, two bolts of average pink gingham and one of genuinely pretty rose gingham, for less than $3/yard. If said LAista still wants pink gingham, she can email me at my Yahoo address, j_zahas@yahoo.com, to let me know how much and I'll go out and grab it.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

October 24 was Kate P's birthday.

Happy Belated Birthday, Kate P., from all the Buffistas!!!

Okay, gifter/giftee matching has been done by a highly scientific process (slips of paper drawn out of a hat), and email has been sent to everyone that told me they wanted to participate in Buffista Secret Santa 2002.

We had a great response this year - almost forty Buffistas signed up. Thanks, everyone!

Several people asked if there were any formal guidelines, so here is a completely unofficial statement by me:

  • Considering that we have participants from three countries, there is
no set amount of money to spend. You aren't expected to bankrupt yourself; whatever amount you feel appropriate for an "imaginary friend" is fine.

  • Homemade stuff is particularly appreciated, but by no means necessary.

  • If for some reason you are absolutely unable to get a gift to your
assigned Buffista, LET ME KNOW ASAP and I will try to fix the problem.

For mailing dates:

And finally, in the immortal words of Krusty the Klown, let me wish you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, a Kwazy Kwanzaa, a tip-top Tet, and a solemn, dignified Ramadan.

Unsure if this should go here or Apocalypse, since I've never posted in either before, but here goes.

Somervillistas (and surroundings), I'm proposing a Sunday (tentative, or Saturday evening if more people can make it) get-together for, most likely, a viewing of Men With Brooms. If I haven't gotten it yet, then Hard Core Logo instead. I can tentatively invite people to my place, but it's a mess and there aren't many places for people to sit, so counteroffers are welcomed. Profile address good.

Some of the crazier W/T cultists have decided to teach Joss a lesson by getting Firefly canceled. Their plan is to write letters (the same way we are in support) to advertisers to complain about Firefly. They do have some numbers.

The following is a post at a DarkAngel fanboard from a W/T cultist.

"I've copied this post for those who might have missed it - certainly seems worth a try. Anyone want to design a postcard to Levis pointing our the positives of DA?

Posted by Web Warlock: The first target is Levi Strauss and Co. makers of Levi Jeans and Dockers. Ok, how will this help? Levi’s has a strong stance on social responsibility. We need to point out to them that we are not watching FireFly (and Buffy, they advertise with both) because of the shows treatment of women and minorities. Examples: On FF we have a woman who is a prostitute and this is considered to be the most honorable profession a woman can be in. We have another woman that began the show being tortured. We have another woman that was given away as a gift. We have a religious man that seems to exsist only as the verbal punching bag of the shows “angry atheist hero”. On Buffy women are also degraded, raped, murdered or beat down on a regular basis. A disproportionate number of minorities are killed (women, lesbians, African Americans, Gays) while white heterosexual males not only rarely die, the ones that do get to come back to life. (as a white heterosexual male I find this very offensive). How can we use this to get Dark Angel back? Point out the positive portrayals (which many of you can do better than me) but off of the top of my head there is a courageous young woman that is fighting for her rights, the male hero of the show is admired for his intellect and the fact that he is wheel-chair bound is only use to show the strength of his character, a positive portrayal of African American gay woman. Not to mention the entire “normals” vs. “freaks” dichotomy of the future can be seen as an portrayal of everyone’s essential rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Tell Levis you are not watching Firefly or Buffy nor will you buy their jeans or other products. However if they were to put the financial backing of their company behind a new series or TV movie for DA you would be more than thrilled to support them with your money.
