"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

My sister was on the local (Austin) Public Radio arts show for a story about the play she's in. It's called The Cry Pitch Carrolls.

Scroll down to the bottom of this page and click on the link under the graphic to hear sis talk about the play, and sing! (I had no idea she could do that so well).

Go see it Austinistas!

Wolfram & Hart Annual Revue Announcement

Registration will open for the event and for the Disney Derby Tomorrow at 7pm PST . We will post the link here and also on our website.

You may register at your leisure through Tuesday, November 25th at 7pm PST. The confirmation that your data was received *is not* a confirmation that you are attending the event!

Event confirmations and wait list notices will be sent out after registration closes. In the event that more people register than there are spots available, there will be a lottery that determines who gets confirmed. We anticipate confirming 300 people. So you do not need to call in sick, stay up late or ignore your family in order to register right at 7pm tomorrow, because everyone who registers has an equal shot at being confirmed in the lottery if the event fills up.

Once confirmed, you will have until December 15th to pay by check or credit card. If you do not pay by that date, your attendance is no longer confirmed and may go to a waitlisted person.

You may register one guest in addition to yourself. The software may allow you to register more than one guest, but if you do so your entire registration will be thrown into our trash can and we will think you suck. You must be 18 to register. Minors can be registered by a parent or guardian who will attend with them.

The cost for the party itself is $104, including a $4 processing fee. There is no additional charge to pay by credit card. Disney Derby is $59 and includes park admission, it is $12 for anyone with a Disneyland annual pass.

Volunteers will be getting special registration instructions tonight. Please, if you are a volunteer, do not register without having looked at your special instructions.

I hope we'll see you there for the party or for the weekend! ~Maya "artemis"

Wait, is this real-world child support, where the money goes to buy food for the kids, or MRA fantasyland child support where the women just buy Ferraris and cocaine? -Jessica

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

Eliza Dushku's on Conan O'Brien's show this evening.

Just finished the opening monolog, and it sounds like she's not the first guest, so grab that remote and get some foam.

We are Buffistas. This isn't our first apocalypse. -- Pix

I'm sure I'm late with this, but I had to announce anyway:

Farscape is coming back! Details to follow.

Thanks all of you for your support for the campaign.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Be very careful opening any messages from PayPal:

A computer virus that camouflages itself as a message from PayPal has started spreading among home users, antivirus companies said on Friday. The program is a variant of the Mimail virus, which has previously spread by appearing to be a security advisory from Microsoft.

The latest verson of the program is attached to an e-mail forged to look as though it came from PayPal, an online payment service bought by eBay last year. Running the program infects the victim’s computer and asks the PC user for credit card information, which the virus then sends to the attacker.

when i die, please bake my ashes into a brick and use me to hit fascists.

Okay, I'm a mostly-lurking newbie whom no one knows, but I think this is really exciting: I'm about to go off on a grand adventure for science! I'm going to be part of Extreme 2003, an expedition to the East Pacific Rise (a few days' sail west of Costa Rica) to study deep sea hydrothermal vents! I feel very lucky to have gotten this opportunity as part of my graduate studies. In particular I'm working with interesting molecules in the Pompeii worm, a critter that lives right on hot vents at the bottom of the ocean, and may be the most heat-tolerant higher organism on the planet. We'll be spending almost a month at sea on the research vessel Atlantis, which is the mother ship for the submersible Alvin. While this hasn't yet been decided, I'm hoping to get a chance to ride Alvin to to bottom of the ocean!

As part of the expedition, coordinated through the University of Delaware College of Marine Studies, an educational outreach is taking place on the Internet. Students from around the globe will be able to follow our expedition via a web site. I invite you to do the same at:

(at the moment this page is just a placeholder; the entire site should go live within the next week, so keep checking--I leave on 27 November and we leave port the next day!)

Swouncing

Attention, Secret Santa Slackers!

In exactly one week I'm going to assign gifters to giftees. This is your last chance to participate!

If you have already e-mailed either Dani or me - you may stop paying attention now. If you haven't but want to join, please send me your details (board name, snail-mail address) to my profile address. Thanks!

Signed, your tiny Jewish not-really-Santa.
