You got all kinds of learnin' and you made me look the fool without tryin', and yet here I am with a gun to your head. That's 'cause I got people with me. People who trust each other, who do for each other, and ain't always lookin' for the advantage.

Always Anti-fascist!

Because I know there are lots of Buffista scribes:

Greetings Poets, Writers, and Readers!

We are putting together our third anthology. The theme for this one is "The Sacred Fool." Send up to three poems, or a short story or essay (under five pages double-spaced) , on your interpretation of the sacred fool. This could be the Hopi mudmen or koshare, Iroquois Haduhi, Dakota Heyoka, Cherokee Boogers, Punch (of Punch and Judy), comedians, political satirists, the court jester, the Tarot Fool, Saxon Gleemen, Puka, the village idiot, mummers, King of Fools (Quasimodo), Don Quixote, Sufi Madzub, clowns, tricksters (Coyote and Loki, to name just two), pan-handlers, madmen, and others who teach us about ourselves through their odd behaviors. Do not send first drafts or ideas – we are looking for finished, polished work of high quality. You need not be previously published; we love new voices. There is a $5.00 entry/reading fee, made payable to "Sacred Fools Press".

You will need to send an RTF or similar attachment upon acceptance. Previously unpublished work only. (Chapbook publication o.k.) Simultaneous submissions o.k. if notified immediately. We acquire first NA serial rights only, which revert back to the author.

Send typed submissions, contact info including email, and a short bio to:

"The Sacred Fool" Sacred Fools Press 45 Dean Avenue Johnston, RI 02919

Accepted writers be given a contributor' s copy. A grand-prize winner will receive three contributor copies and $100. Deadline November 1st.(Melissa has extended this deadline to 1/15. She is a friend of Victor's and we are in November 3rd Club together, so I'm passing this on.)

Voting results:

To set an opening date of December 1st and a closing deadline of March 31st for the Goodbye and Good Riddance Thread. As of the last day of February, any ungifted Santa or Slacker Santa giftees will have the option to throw their names back into the pool to be gifted by other volunteers, which will be a way for people who found themselves unable to gift for one reason or another to bow out gracefully and for everyone to get closure on the year without the thread going on for months.

YES 58

NO 2

Total of 60 votes were cast.

Remember the Secret Santa Exchange?

If not, then this is a reminder: Anyone interested in exchanging small presents with other Buffistas during the holiday season, email me at my profile address with your Buffista name and a snail-mail location to which people can send your present.

Please try to email me by November 20. I'll match names and send out notices by November 22, to allow for lots of present buying/making and mailing time.

Your truly,
Tiny Jewish not-Santa

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

I decided to go public.

Please join me in my nascent writing project/life journey/trendy action:

Captain Mordinary

Only caveats: I'm not linking to the Phoenix or using my real name - it's public, but I want a layer of semi-pseud.

Thanks if you want to drop by.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Hey guys -- Thanks to those of you who sent in money for board upkeep recently! But we could use some more.... Give thanks for the Phoenix this Thanksgiving! (And/or this random week in November, for those of you not in the US.) Paypal to donations at buffistas dot org, or email me for my address if you want to send a check. Thanks, y'all.

I'm trying to land an adjunct gig teaching an Adolescent Lit class, and am putting together a sample syllabus.

Please visit my page and make recommendations for a reading list or 6-12th graders, or for my require reading list!

I appreciate the expert opinions!

Slacker Secret Santa: All of you who want to exchange presents with other Buffistas but haven't mailed me about it yet, this is your chance!

Please send your info (board name and snail-mail address) to my profile address until the 10th of December. By then, I'll match you up to pairs of givers and recipients, and let you know which is who.

Even though it's titled with the word "Slacker" in it, you do remember that this year we voted on a gift-deadline of March, right? It doesn't mean you can't slack, just that there's a limit to it. Hope it's OK.

Your truly,
Tiny Jewish not-Santa

P.S. All the "regular" Secret Santa notices have now been sent out last week. If you didn't get one, or if there are any other problems, you're of course more than welcome to email me.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

And in the spirit of secretive gift giving, most of the information I have in the database of secrets dates back to 2005 or so. This is your chance to fill out the form for the first time or update it if your tastes have changed.

What I do is keep this in a super-secret location and when someone emails me and asks for information about you, I send it to them. That way you get something you're likely to like, and your giver doesn't have to sweat blood to find it. People use them year 'round for anniversarys and whatnot, but mostly at this time of year.

If you'd like to be included in the database, just copy and paste these questions into an email, answer the ones you want to answer and skip the ones you don't (many people skip some things), add more information if you think I left something out, and then send it to me at my profile address.
