A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

I'm going to be dark for a little while (at least through the end of next week) until I get out from under some of this work.

Ugh.

And Sue, what the heck is a 'flark'? It's not in the Canadian Ox or the OED! Email me, I have to know.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Going to PDX early in the morning for the HP Lovecraft Film Festival.

So, I'll be dark, perhaps until after Angel. Unlike my last attempt at dark, there will be no ethernet-in-room.

See everyone in a while.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

Grandfather back in the hospital on Saturday night. Nothing too serious this time. He was running a fever and rather than take any chances after the whole pneumonia/sepsis episode, my grandmaother took him to the ER. The Dr that admitted last time to the CCU was on duty and she admitted him right away and began IV antibiotics and Viagris, an antibody of some sort, I think. Anyway, temp was a few degrees above normal yesterday and he might be home tomorrow or Wednesday. So far, chest films aren't showing a recurrence of the pneumonia and the blood work is clear of sepsis. So, we'll see.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

I've now officially given notice. My direct boss is out sick, so I left her a voicemail and then spoke to our department head, who is flatteringly sorry to lose me. I'll be going dim for the next few weeks, since I'll have a lot to do getting my projects in good order to hand off, and just handling all the logistics of quitting with HR and so on.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I just sent this to a buffista but then I thought, why not share with all of you. ;^)

I was at the Terrastock Festival all this weekend:

In addition to seeing a lot of cool bands, my band The Lothars performed. I thought it we went over really well, but the circumstances may have distorted my perception. Here's why: The festival took place at a club that was supposed to have two large rooms available to us (Axis for you Boston locals). Bands would switch off between rooms. While one band was playing, the next band would set up in the other room, and the audience files back and forth. This allows for almost non-stop music while making things less stressful for the bands (who usually have only 10-15 minutes to set up their equipment). Well, the second room, that was supposed to have completed its renovations weeks ago, wasn't even close to being finished. As a consolation, the club gave us this really huge room next door to use as a second stage (Avalon for you same locals). The catch was that we'd only get that room Friday and Saturday. Sunday, we would have to put all the bands in the one large-but-not-huge room. So a second stage was literally built from scratch on Sunday morning and placed adjacent to the main stage. Sunday was also the day that the biggest draw was scheduled to play --- Sonic Youth. Guess who was scheduled to play immediately before Sonic Youth?

:^)

So we had a packed-to-the-gills captive audience of 700 or so watching our every finger wiggle --- Captive because if they moved they'd lose their spot for SY viewing. heh heh.

And we went over really well, I thought. We did a single 40 minute improvisation, got lots of cheers at the end, and sold a couple hundred dollars worth of merch through the end of the day. A day I will not soon forget.

"I'm useless alone." // "We're all useless alone. It's a good thing you're not alone."

I'll be dark tomorrow at least, and probably most of the weekend, since I'm going to the dentist tomorrow, where he will knock me out and take my two remaining wisdom teeth. But I'll be watching Firefly, even in my post-drug stupor.
