If the Apocalypse Comes, Beep Me
Birth, death, illness, new job, vacation...if it's happening to you and you want us to know about it, post it here. These threads are intended for announcements only. Want to offer sympathy or congratulations, or talk about anything? Take it to Natter. Any natter here will be deleted.
It's that time of year when I ask, hat in hand, for some help. Things at my school are dire. For example, since 2009, our enrollment has declined by 30%, while our staff has declined by 52% (and that's with keeping some 12% of teachers by writing a crazy grant for something else). So we have no money and I'm Donors Choosing it.
Each year, Sonic runs a Limeades for Learning Program. People can vote each day for the next 30 days. Each week, Sonic will fund the projects with the highest votes. Please help me by voting. My current project is for Doubt which I am totally stoked to teach and my project in the wings is for Lauren Hillenbrand's book Unbroken.
You can vote each day (and via many email addresses) at [link] Please to help and thanks!
Ethan's book is available for pre-order! Go buy it!
(About the price, this publisher mainly sells to libraries and academic institutions, so it's priced like a textbook. Hopefully they'll be able to put out a more public-friendly paperback or e-book release in the future!!)
Can I have some interview ~ma around 1:30pm PST? I have a preliminary phone interview with a tech company.
My sister has taken a turn for the worse. Prayers or vibes or good thoughts if you have them would be welcome. This may just be a reaction to the chemo, but we'll know more later.
May I please have more interview~ma at 2pm PST today? Second round of phone interviews for a job that I really want.
I don't deserve it based on my board presence lately but please send some easy passing ~Ma for my grandma in oklahoma. We've had a running gag that she's my favorite grandma (because she's been my only one since I was 1yr old). I'm very lucky to be sitting by her bed.
Thank you. It worked as Ma always does. She went peacefully and that's all I could ask.
I have a new piece up at Hilobrow on Nathanael West, best known as the author of Day of the Locust but a fascinating confabulist and all-around intriguing guy.
Please to click the FB Like at Hilobrow, and/or retweet if you are inclined. Danke schoen.
