Because books.

My grandmother died this morning, after surviving the horrible seizures that Saturday night. It was peaceful, and I like to think she's with my grandfather now.

It's hard for everyone, though -- my mom is only child, and my brother is going to the first of the SEAL funerals on Thursday, so any good thoughts aimed our way would be helpful.

Thanks again to everyone for letting me dump that night, too. It was a huge help.

Librarian Warlord

Here I am again, asking for your social networking linkity-link-links in our search for Sassafras. An American University journalism student did a short documentary piece as a project and we'd like as many people to see it as possible: [link]

We are trying to keep her story out there, so that people know we're still looking, and hoping. The temperatures here are lower than they have been, and she may move around more, giving someone the chance to spot her. We don't know if she's tucked into Rock Creek Park, or moved out of the area.

Please post everywhere! Thanks.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Job~ma at 3 pm EDT today would be very much appreciated. Awesome interview on Tuesday turned into a follow-up phone call 12 hours later, and now the Senior VP of HR wants to have a 40-50 minute call today (having profusely apologized for asking to do so on a Sunday). I really want this to work out; this is a huge step forward in my career.

Thank you!

And it didn't work out, despite an awesome call on Sunday and talk of a full day interview this Friday. They've chosen not to move forward with my candidacy.

I'm really bummed.

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

So just got a call and I need to have a follow up mammogram and a few ultrasound images taken. I am telling myself that follow up images are fairly common, but if anyone has some spare It's Nothing~ma and Calm~ma lying around, I could use a bit. Thanks.

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

I’m not sure if this should go here or in Press, but LAistas--Tom Scola will be in town this weekend and is staying with us! If you’d like to get together for a mini F2F for dinner or some such, let’s talk about it in the F2F thread.

Side note: although ND and I have some time this weekend, Tom’s going to be mostly on his own Monday and Tuesday and I’m sure would welcome Buffista-shaped distraction. He’s renting a car, so he can meet you.

We won’t stop until everyone is gay.

Can I get some mighty ~ma? We think my roommate's kitten got out through the dryer vent. She's still pretty feral, so we don't have much hope, but Buffista ~ma can't hurt.

Our wings are not tired.

Hey New Yorker Buffistas and NY-adjacent Buffistas, I have a request. My dear and wonderful employee R and his cousin are trying to visit NY (where they were raised) for a few days during Labor Day week (like from the 7-10 or so). I'm guessing the already-super-expensive NY is even more so because of 9/11 activities. Does anyone have a tip on good places to stay? He's looking at packages that are $1100 or so for 3 days that include the airfare/hotel. Is that the best he can get? I am thinking yes, but wanted to check with y'all.
