Lest anyone be concerned, I wasn't in Bangkok for New Year - still in Scotland, in fact - so, no, not involved in the Nightclub Fire. Praying that nobody of my acquaintance was either, selfish as that is - still, the 60+ dead are all somebody's family and friends. It's a terrible way to start 2009.

Sigh. Hivemind help requested.
In a genius move, I just sliced the hell out of my right index finger on the edge of a food processor blade stuck in the corner of a drawer. It bled a lot but stopped after about 15 minutes of elevation and pressure. I flushed it out with cold water, put antibiotic ointment on it, and bandaged it up. It's ugly, but I think it will be fine.
However, I can't for the life of me remember when the last time I had a tetanus shot is. I don't think it's been more than ten years--I suspect it's been about 9--but I should probably get a booster just in case. Can I wait until tomorrow to go into Urgent Care and get one, or do I have to go in tonight? I'd really rather avoid yet another late night UC visit if at all possible.
A little Buffista health-ma in the direction of my Mom couldn't hurt just now, as she seems to have taken a turn from the worse based on the testimony of her best friend. So I'm headed down there instead of going home from the Big Family Gathering I was at this weekend, to sort out what's what and generally hold my breath until she gets the proper help or treatment. So probably I'll need some Resolve-ma for myself for dealing with a Difficult Person.
Tomorrow morning 7am ET I go in for small outpatient surgery. Should be no big whoop and that is what I am hoping. Mac was told over a week ago and has been to the hospital and has had time to ask many questions, still tonight had a mini-meltdown. so some calmness to him would be appreciated.
I am home. Turned out to be more than they thought, so the 10 minute procedure became over an hour, still, I am home, not sore and have had my first piece of bread, so well on the way to normalcy.
Mac went to school fine with his granddad, he remembered me waking him up at 5 to kiss him goodbye and seemed all calm. Granddad will go pick him up from afterschool in 10 min or so.
thanks for all the good thoughts.
Daniel's mom is in the hospital with a broken ankle. They need to operate and put some plates to stabilize it. Please send lots of good healing~ma.
All,
Jon has a post in Tech about LJ potentially going belly up in the near future. Jon B. "Buffistechnology 3: "Press Some Buttons, See What Happens."" Jan 6, 2009 9:02:48 am PST

Welcome to th ewonderful world of contracting . As many of you know my DH changed jobs in November. He is working for company T -- that send contractors to differnt companies. matt was at a company with a 6month+ contract, unfortunatley the numbers had them eliminate the entire department he was with. Company T is already looking fo r something for him, and his great reccomendations from the company he was workign for. W e would like a bit of jobma~~~ that something new shows up quick. ( and maybe some calm ma~~~ as we learn to live with the world of contracting )
So that worrying symptom my grandmother was having may be cervical or uterine cancer. She's having more tests done tomorrow and will learn more by next week, but she's 95, almost 96, so we're not sure what will happen next. She's had a long life, and I'm not going to wish to exend it beyond what will be healthy and comfortable for her, but I do hope that whatever comes next is as peaceful and easy for her and my mom, her primary caretaker, as possible. -ma to that effect would be appreciated.
