Funny thing about black and white. You mix it together and you get gray. And it doesn't matter how much white you try and put back in, you're never gonna get anything but gray.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

YAY!

Zmayhem baby is here, and has been since 9:35. She was 6 pounds 5 ounces, and 19 inches long. She looks like JZ. Mom, Dad and Baby are fine. Well, Mom is tired, Baby's head got a little squashed because she got a little stuck, and Dad sounds smitten, but otherwise all is good.

JZ will be in the hospital until Saturday because of the C-section.

Our wings are not tired

I've been nominated for two Ovation Awards again this year. One in small theatre, one in large theatre. These are sorta the closest thing we have to the Tonys on the West Coast.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

xpost with Bitches but I know some people are keeping track over here.

Matilda had to be taken to the NICU last night. She had bile in her stomach and had to have it pumped out. Apparently she swallowed some of her own mess in utero while doing her practice breathing before she was born.

Matilda was getting fussy and distressed last night so JZ called the nurse to bring her over to the bed. The nurse patted Matilda on the back and some dark mucus came up. They took her to the nursery and she vomited some more dark stuff. So they took her to the NICU to get her stomach suctioned out. JZ went down there at 2:30am and held Matilda while they did the procedures and stayed with her until 5:30. That's not how you want to spend the night after you've had abdominal surgery!

Poor little Matilda, that's a fine welcome to the world. And poor JZ being up all night and moving around after a C-section.

So I'll make it back over there in time for rounds and hear what the doctors say. Night nurse said there's a good chance she'll be released back to us today since the stomach was suctioned twice and sonogram shows no intestinal blockage. So it looks like everything's out that needs to be out and I hope that is all the problem that's going on.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

There may not be much spare "hope for the best" lying about at the moment, but if you have any, please aim it briefly at San Rafael, California. My friend Beth, whose picture ought to be used in the dictionary to illustrate the word "sweetiepie", has just been told that she has fast-moving fatal scleroderma. They're giving her five years if she's lucky. She's in her early forties.

Thanks.

love's a dream you enter though I shake and shake and shake you

xpost w/Bitches:

Just got off the phone with Hec, and little Matilda is doing fine. She had an upper GI series done this morning, which came back completely normal, so the docs suspect she just swallowed some gunk in utero. She should be released from the NICU at 3 this afternoon.

As for JZ, she's showered and caffeinated and feeling like, and I quote, "the happiest girl in the world."

That man was going to shank me. Over an omelette. Two eggs and a slice of government cheese. Is that what my life is worth?

Could y'all please send some of the patented ~ma towards the Memphis area today? My mom is taking my dad to meet with a doctor and to tell my dad that they need to move him to a nursing home. It really is the best move for everyone, but my mom is feeling guilty and I know my dad isn't going to take it well. Thanks.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Not the cutest picture of her, since she's squashed, bruised, possibly sneering and definitely squinting (I swear I've got cuter pictures in my phone), but you can see her adorable, chubby cheeks, and the always interesting Mom on morphine effect.

JZ and Matilda. About an hour and half old.

I wish to verify the fact that Matilda is completely gorgeous.

Beautiful, beautiful child. She slept in my arms until her pede showed up to check her out, and she reacts to mother's milk as if it were primo michuocan pot: total stoner glaze.

She looks uncannily like her mum. There was a moment though, where she twisted her face up and looked exactly like her brother.

So the Tildababy is real, and just lovely beyond words.

And JZ rocks. But that needed no verification.
