Inara: So, explain to me again why Zoe wasn't in the dress? Mal: Tactics, woman. Needed her in the back. 'Sides, those soft cotton dresses feel kinda nice. It's the whole... air-flow.

Since today marks my one year anniversary as a registered (and posting) Buffista, I'd like to take a moment to reflect on the things I’ve learned over the past year. I learned (among other things):

1) the meaning of HoYay and its delightful ubiquity;
2) the difference between snark and snerk;
3) that getting along is usually more important than being right, and that I’d rather be an asset than an ass;
4) that the Buffistas are a fiercely protective and cohesive group of independent thinkers, and by thinkers I mean porn;
5) that numberslutting can lose its thrill, but a new thread never loses its smell;
6) about gay pirates, dead pandas, social capital, nillying, buff-diving, preferential voting, how to spell bureaucrazy, and that monkeys will always be funny;
7) that Joss and Tim are gods, and that Joss and Tim are us;
8) that you only get COMMed when you least expect it
9) that my life has gotten a little bit brighter for being a part of this amazing community; and
10) that I can never give back as much as I’ve gained although I damn well plan to try.

We go to see RotK at the midnight showing tonight. At 6 AM tomorrow morning, we go to the hospital to prep Hubby for major spinal surgery. It could be removal of a bone spur from his spinal cord, it may be fusion of several vertebrae. Health-ma and sanity-ma will be much appreciated.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Wanted to get the word out before collapsing into bed - I have a 2nd interview tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at 8am EST (5am board time). Buffista jobma is necessary - I've seen what you gus can do, and I'm certain that it's the reason I got the second interview in the first place. And it is also much appreciated. This is for Dream Job in Dream Environment.

Thank you.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

In case you haven't heard, I have a new job. This job ends on Friday (YAY!) and the new one starts 1/6.

If you have an address for me at Riverside Dr., that is no longer valid. If you need a new address for me, email me.

Thank you for all the support as I got more and more miserable at this job and as I searched for a new one.

I'm back from LA! It was awesome and fabulous. Returning from vacation sucks even if you don't have to go to work the next day.

However, I'm a bazillion and three posts behind in every thread, I think. So, uh...I'll skip and skim, but I may not even have a chance to do that, for a bit...

Hubby update--they had to do the spinal fusion after all. Apparently there were a lot of big blood vessels down there that the doc wasn't expecting, so he lost about a unit of blood, but they're upping his intravenous fluids rather than transfusing. He'll be in the hospital for at least three days, and I don't know if that counts today or not. Doc was hoping it was just a matter of a bone fragment pressing on the nerves, which would have had Hubby back on his feet and back at work within days, but that is not the case. I don't know when we'll get back to what passes for normal around here.

But he's out of surgery, he's coherent, he can move his legs, he has all feeling, and he should stop waking up screaming. I keep reminding myself of the priorities.

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

Not exactly life-shattering, but:

1 Still not dead

2 Just finished first term and still loving job -- go me!

3 Class production was roaring success -- go kiddies!

4 Going home to UK for Christmas and Hogmanay! Yay!

5 Recently been on National Television, singing for President with wee buggers. Random or what?
