Spike: We got a history, him and me. Fred: What? Spike: It was a long time ago. He was a young Watcher, fresh out of the academy when we crossed paths. It was a, what-you-call battle of wills and blood was spilled. Vendettas were sworn. It was a whole-- Fred: My God you're so full of crap. Spike: Yeah. Okay.

"Don't think of yourself as an organic pain collector racing towards oblivion." Dogbert to Dilbert

The religious talk in the Buffy thread takes a turn:

billytea: Australia, BTW, is nominally Christian - we have no First Amendment, the Anglican Church is technically the State religion - but really it's a nation of pagans. Specifically, sun-worshippers.

BHP: So, slip, slop, and slather is a heresy promoted by the State?

Laura: I could be a sun worshipper

Tom Scola: (Going back to my old tagline) Hurray for the Sun God, he sure is a fun god, Ra!Ra!Ra!

(That last bit is why I love this place. I don't think anybody I know locally would even get that joke.)

an overblown libretto and a sumptuous score/ could never contain the contradictions I adore

Betsy in Buffy, nonspoilery:

Right after the Gulf War started, I dragged the atheist husband to a Unitarian service, because I felt the need of some spiritual comfort.

I got a white guy playing a marimba solo in honor of Martin Luther King Day.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

John H, harking back to online battles of the past:

I'm mentally captaining a firefly-class starship called "The Great Buffy Gerund Debate of 2002".

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Betsy: I found Cordy's breasts really distracting; it seemed as if they were the focal point of most shots.

Billytea: And have you noticed how they seem to follow you around the room?

Betsy: Snerk. I did watch them pogoing up and down out of frame with some alarm.

Jon: You were pogoing while you were watching Cordelia?

Steph on the latest Buffy:

If Spike weren't crazy before, meeting *himself* is gonna push him over the edge...

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

beth b: As long as I am not related to Pat Buchanan, I don't care.

DavidS on Angel plot developments:

I don't care how they derailed the Cordelia/ Angel train as long as it's off the trestle and down in the gully.

I thought it was another fine episode in what so far is an amazing season. Which makes me unhappy in a way, because all this goodness has a "let's go out with a bang" feel and I'm not ready to face a GOP world with no new BTVS.
