Ah, yes, of course. The gypsies, they gave you your soul. The gypsies are filthy people. Ptui! We shall speak of them no more.

Nana korobi, ya oki. (Fall down seven times, stand up eight.) ~Yuzuru Hanyu/Japanese proverb

I think that last COMM should go in the FAQ as the definition of "Bullshit Concensus."

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

JZ, in Angel, leveling the Buffista Curse on a dissenter:

All right. THAT IS IT. You, young lady, can go straight to Worldcrossing on a HostRocket server, and you can sit there and think about what you've just said, and not come back until you're able to post like a civilized human being.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Am-Chau in Fan Fiction:

Bow before Google and my incessent curiosity. Fandom is always a learning experience. Okay, sometimes the lesson is "you have a knowledge addiction", but that doesn't seem to stop me coming back for more.

"You see? THAT's what they want. Love, and a bit with a dog."

In Bitches,

Beverly: Evangelista with a blowdryer in Deb's dining room!

Ginger: That sounds like a new version of Clue.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

My statement was a lot more ambiguous before I edited.

We're all getting played with, babe. -Weird Barbie

NoiseDesign:

I hope the settling in goes well for you. And that bubble gum chewing llama's don't haunt your days.

billytea:

The male hooded seal, during mating season, blows the lining of his nose out like a balloon and waves it around to attract attention. I think it's supposed to be intimidating. (And let's be honest, you'd think twice before approaching someone doing this.) This is what the llama looks like it's doing. Only it could just inflate the lining halfway, and it just looks a bit pathetic, like a balloon when it's lost most of its air and it's getting all pinched and wrinkled.

Where was I going with this? Oh yes. It's not the days that worry me. Especially since my reading matter is mostly Doctor Who books at the moment.

Not having has never been the thing I've regretted most in my life. Not trying is.

Victor offers a suggestion in FF:

This thread could be mathier. There should be more math.

Tommyrot obliges via crosspost.

It's been so long since I've studied this... but if you look at ∞ as a limit, then ∞/∞ could be a non-infinite number, depending on what the limit is. For example, the lim x²/x as x→∞ is ∞, but the lim x/x as x→∞ =1.

Victor Infante: I stand corrected.

ETA: -t's coup de grace:

Just trying to live up to the thread title.

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

Also in FF:

Narrator: ARRRGH!! Call out the Marines!! They're using the Weapons of Math Destruction!!!

What is even happening?

Betsy: Finally, a question I can answer.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES FOR SUCCESS IN THE MINIATURE CATTLE BUSINESS?
Hec: Betsy can totally do this. First, she borrows a cowboy hat from Jesse. Second, she brings billytea in to set up a breeding program. She's got teams of actuaries on hand to project earnings. And look how happy she is to handle a functional cattle prod.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

beth b in Bitches:

both my cat and my DH think I should go to bed. the fact that I want to say "you're not the boss of me" makes me think that they might be right.
