St. Patrick apparently never made it across to England.

Actually, the story (or at least the version of it with which I am familiar) has it that he was born in Wales, and taken to Ireland as a slave, so he was originally from this side of the Irish Sea. But it's true that we still have snakes in England (and Wales and Scotland): the grass snake (which is actually a legless lizard), the adder (the posionous but really rare one)... and possibly one other I've forgotten.
the grass snake (which is actually a legless lizard)I don't care what they are technically, that's a snake. ::shudders:: The Tiajuana Estuary has some flavor of legless lizard and no one will ever convince me that they just aren't snakes that are lying to themselves.
I might have a slight touch of snake squick.

But they have ears. They can hear you coming!

That's so cool! I totally didn't know that.

They have eyelids, too!
It's an interesting case of evolution repeating a winning design -- snakes split off the reptile tree a long long time ago.
Yeah, SA--the BUNAC thing works for New Zealand *anytime*, as long as you're under 30 (that's what my friend who's there is doing--though she's actually going to extend her visa for a second year!!!). The UK thing is only right after you graduate, so...do that now, while you can.
SA, are you going to the UK first to do BUNAC, and then to NZ? I only ask because I remember looking into doing BUNAC in Australia after my semester abroad in South Africa, but I couldn't get the right visa because I would have had to come back to the US to get it after South Africa, which I didn't want to do. So if you're doing BUNAC first, that shouldn't be a problem... just thought I'd mention it in case you're not.
Also, that's so cool!

Yep, that's what I'm going through to get the Britain/Ireland visa.
...damn, what is the third snake? 'Cause I think there are three as well...damn.
The adder, aka the viper, is our only poisonous one. And grass snakes. And...
...er...
It's like the third Bronte. Except I know her name.
Maybe the third snake is called Anne?
