Zoe: Uh huh. River, honey? He's putting the hair away now. River: It'll still be there... waiting.

Bag the crypto. Say what is on your mind.

what's the German for "punk-ass bitch..."

"Weibchen des Punk-Esels", I think.

That is the point, about The Wire. The translation of the slang is just off by a concept or two. It hits you later, like "Oh! He didn't mean 'furnace', he meant 'burner'!"

eta: A burner is a cell phone that is sold with a certain number of minutes enabled. When the minutes are gone, you chuck it out. It can also be a stolen cell phone, one that will work until the owner cancels the account, at which point you chuck it out.

wrod...descended from "burn-bag" which looks like drugs, but is really baking soda. They are hazardous to a bunky's health...the bags not the phones, which are the finest in yo-tech.)

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

An Australian friend send me a link to this picture on a blog that the Austro-Buffistas upset at their election results might get a bitter laugh at:

"When the world's run by fools it's the duty of intelligence to disobey." Martin Firrell

Thanks Theo, you made MY day!

Hi all, 2 weeks till exams, 5 assignments to complete, I'll disappear in a puff of smoke very soon.

Fay, I DID and WAS thinking of you and anxiously waited for the Englishwoman in Egypt to reappear and post that she was OK. How horrible, words can't .... well I guess they can but I can't right now. Why am I studying to be a politics/history/international relations secondary school teacher ... I don't think I can really answer that right now either.

On a slightly lighter note, have your parents gone grey yet, what with you in Egypt and your sister's past proximity to SARS?

Always Anti-fascist!

So sorry, Fay...I keep meaning to say so, and get distracted. But, still glad it's not One of Ours, if you'll follow me.

Trying to post this where she may see it on time: according to the Buffista Calendar, today is Fiona's birthday.

Happy birthday, Fiona! With lots of wishes for a great day and a wonderful year!

Thanks Nilly! Woke up to a grey rainy day today, with a son who refused point blank to sing Happy Birthday. Things can only get better!

a son who refused point blank to sing Happy Birthday

Shame on him! And in the pictures, he's so cute. Also, goodness, I can't wrap my brain around him being old enough to sing.

Things can only get better!

It's just spending all the grey-ness and lack-of-singing-ness of the year up front, when it starts, so that the rest of it is freed up to be fabulous.

Also, goodness, I can't wrap my brain around him being old enough to sing.

You should hear him! It's getting so that he can even carry a tune. And he talks ridiculously fluently, in two languages. It's amazing.

I'm going out with SO for dinner at a restaurant tonight, ON OUR OWN, which is such a special treat nowadays that it's worth having a birthday to get it.
