I think force is sometimes necessary, although a lot less often than people think. I think the fact of having a superior army makes it more tempting to use force when negotiation would be appropriate. I think it is difficult to negotiate effectively without also having an army.
I think people aren't as trustworthy and honorable as I wish they were.

Umm - don't know what context the comment was made in. But there is a whole spectrum of opinion between pacificism, and the belief that the U.S. should pretty much stomp anyone it does not like.
Or to take the current case of Iraq. About 90% of those who opposed the invasion of Iraq were not pacifists.
