You know, with the exception of one deadly and unpredictable midget, this girl is the smallest cargo I've ever had to transport. Yet by far the most troublesome. Does that seem right to you?

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

And thank you, Nilly, for that post. It's a thing of complete and total loveliness.

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

Jamie Oliver's new series (starting in Australia tonight), where he opens his own restaurant and employs a bunch of long-term unemployed disadvantaged young people as the staff, is apparently brilliant and has cured everyone in the UK of chronic Jamie fatigue.

It is brilliant. It totally shows that his act is the product of being a very hardnosed professional at the top of one of the toughest businesses in the UK, and at the same time a thoroughly good bloke.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

It's only through talking to my cousin about his job (chef at a country club) that I've come to realize what a people-skills-intensive job it is, as well as having to know how to cook, plan ahead to make sure you have raw materials, et cetera.

One of the reasons I love Junkyard Wars -- at least the British version, Scrapheap Challenge is that the contestants have real i.e. non-showbiz accents, yet are bright and voluble nerds.

Question for Brit-type Un-Americans: Are you scheduled to get one of the 'unaired' Firefly episodes today, and which one is it?

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

At 8pm we have War Stories, then at 9pm we have Trash.

Yay!!!

I bop to Wittgenstein. -- Nutty

Yay for Firefly! t does Happy Dance

Do any other Brits know if there are going to be any reruns of Smallville this summer, and if so, when and where? I've caught the end of season 2 on C4, and have stupidly got hooked, and now I want to catch up on all the Big Gay Bald Millionaire and Alien Farmboy I missed.

Thank you, Fay. I have "Trash" on VCD, and I have a long plane ride today, so I may be able to semi-sort-of-simu-watch.

Fiona! I got the package! Thank you so much!

Nilly, I'm so glad to hear that it arrived! You and your friends have a great time watching the tapes, OK?

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Nilly - Your post was so sweet. Glad I could be a part of it. The notes you keep from the Post Office -- Those are the custom declaration forms, right? That is so cute that you keep them!

To every idea a shelf...

I can't believe there are only three more Buffy episodes ever. I just can't believe it.

Thoughts on Empty Places.....

I liked it up until the end. I loveloveloved the scene between Willow and Xander in the hospital – it completely broke my heart. I liked when they were blowing off steam in the Bronze. I liked Wood/Faith interaction – I think they should get married and have appallingly attractive children. Also, the Andrew mini-lust? It’s growing, although I try to make it go away.

But I felt like the episode (and possible the season, depending where they go from here) completely fell apart in that final scene - I just didn’t buy it, especially Dawn kicking her out. It just felt so odd and forced and false, I could feel all my investment in the show weakening. By the time it went to credits I felt totally flat.

Somewhere along the line I went from adoring this season to feeling mildly disappointed in it and distanced from it, but I can’t pinpoint when it happened. This episode has made it much worse.
