What are "Asterix" dogs, Zoe?
Are the German dogs saying *wow wow* or *vow vow* bitte?
It's wow wow, with a soft "w".

Asterix is a comic book series, originally French (by Goscinny and Uderzo). You don't have Asterix in the States??!!
I'm learning lots of German words lately Fiona, but they're all from opera so they tend to be things like "Liebestod" and "Ewigkeit," which might not be that useful in conversation.
Hey, Angus, you never know.
Fingers duly crossed, billy.

Sadly (it appears), no.
Asterix and Obelix has been introduced here several times, I read, but never taken off. Everything I know I learned from this page. Billytea ought to approve of this detail: the chief of Asterix's Gallic tribe is named Vitalstitistix.

We do, but the fandom is sadly limited to (of course) French teachers, and then to mild freakazoids.
I keep being very tempted to actually purchase some. Been years since I read any.

Ah, twue wuv -- or is it Twudy wuv?
Sadly (it appears), no.
What a sad, sad shame. Asterix and Obelix are fantastic. The books have been around since, at least, the 60s and were hugely popular when I was a kid in the 70s. They've made some cartoon features based on some of the stories, plus they've recently even made some live-action features. Gerard Depardieu plays Obelix. The latest one is supposed to be really cool.
