Well, true, Haigh's is the best, props to Adelaide etc. etc., but there's something particularly invigorating about something that looks like a Mars bar but tastes really good, trust me.

t edit G'day bt! Haven't seen you around for a while.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

G'day bt! Haven't seen you around for a while.

G'day yourself. Or howdy, to use a traditional Philadelphia greeting. Yeah, I shouldn't be here now either. I've gone (mostly) dark while preparing for an exam. However, today has been unpleasant for reasons not immediately apparent (except for the extraordinary levels of lethargy). I think homesickness may be involved, images of Canberra and Melbourne life keep popping up unbidden (granted, as long as the alternative is memorising a list of the many varieties of swap contracts, this is probably to be expected). I should probably also find a way to blame the war, I'm sure otherwise the terrorists have already won. So I thought I'd pop in and look for a mood-lightener. Haigh's (and, for that matter, Aussie Milky Ways) could be it. If they were over here, that is...

Incidentally, friends of ours just sent word that they're exploring a move to Cooma, and asking if we'd heard of it. Given I grew up in Canberra and Bec in Bega, that would be an affirmative. I've been dreaming up some bitter mockery of their worry that it might get a bit chilly there.

Ha!

Oh well, nice to see you even if you are wagging. Why not blame the war? Everyone else is doing it!

No other candidate is asking the hard questions, like "Did geophysicists assassinate Jim Henson?" or "Why is there hydrogen in America's water supply?" --defective yeti

Yay billytea! I hope John H will be showing up this weekend for Australian talk.

Nou, it sounds as though you're the victim of a campaign to spread misinformation about Australia!

I just learned the Cloud 9 thing in a blog today. And that other Australian also told me a story about a woman having a heart attack on his plane over the ocean and the stewardesses couldn't resuscitate her. "Taking the piss" is telling the gullible American stories about dropbears -- this guy was just lying to pass the time. What a booger.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

Heh. If only I were. I'm interspersing all this with swappy goodness.

On the plus side, I have got through an obscene amount of study over the last couple of weeks. Which is good, because a couple of weeks ago I was mildly panicking along the lines of "I'll never cover everything in time at this rate". Failed to consider that I'd basically left all the stuff I'm most familiar with till last.

Hey, did you hear about the colossal squid they caught off Antarctica? Sharp, tooth-like hooks on its tentacles that it can rotate 360 degrees (the hooks, that is). And it was caught near the surface.

That's weird. The others are mostly correct though. Except that we don't really say "crisps" much, that's more of an English thing; we tend to use "chips" for both what the Americans call fries and what the English call crisps. Also, we don't say "Monday next" for "next Monday" unless we're being ironically quaint.

Oh, and Smarties aren't quite the same as M&Ms.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

Oh, and Smarties aren't quite the same as M&Ms.

Because Smarties taste good. At least the Canadian ones.

Violet Crumble is semi-addictive, but I wouldn't call it good.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Angus ... yeah, I've seriously misused the term "collateral damage". What I'm trying to say is that I believe Jamal Islamia (I'm sure I've probably misspelt that) were primarily aiming to kill more Americans and if they happened to get some Aussies while they were at it, well that was just gravy (and a big ew! for that analogy). The fact they ended up killing more Australians was by "accident", not design because although we do get a lot of negative press nowadays, it seems to be mostly related to our belated actions in East Timor and not because we're the spawn of satan ( = Americans).

None of which diminishes the magnitude of the tragedy, or the appalling way the media and government have endeavoured to benefit from it.

Have you seen the latest 60 Minutes promo? "Bali: 6 Months Later" ... no guesses how those mob of pricks will handle the story.
