You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with until you understand who's in ruttin' command here.

But the defence forces still explicitly derive their symbolic legitimacy from the monarchy John--ie Royal Australian Navy and Air Force (and Army? I'm not sure).

And with that, I'm off to an anti-war rally even though it's just started pelting with rain. I expect to return to loquacious tributes to my selfless dedication to the cause.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that.

Speaking of which, anyone heard from Min lately? Her brothers are in the army, right? I hope they're not involved in the war.

"When the world's run by fools it's the duty of intelligence to disobey." Martin Firrell

Yeah I suppose. He was demonstrating how he got a fit of the giggles whilst taking his oath and my ears just pricked up when I heard him say "I pledge allegiance to the Queen". I questioned him and he said that he didn't pledge allegiance to the Queen but that his mate did. WTF? He then explained that there were two oaths and that they got to choose which one they swore and signed.

Well colour me confused!

Timelies! Umm.. just posting to say I'm still around, and miss Buffistas.. but I have a heck of a lot of work to do and the rest of the time, well, going out and partying, not staying in front of computer.

More than 3000 posts behind in natter. But up to date with Buffy tv watching, so my priorities are still okay. :p

Have a peaceful weekend everyone!

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Well, I think any praise of The West Wing is too much, but that's just me.

No, it's really, really not.

ie Royal Australian Navy and Air Force (and Army? I'm not sure).

No, because the "Army" doesn't exist as an official think - you have "Royal" regiments, not a "Royal" army.

Ah! I didn't know that. BTW, Eaton-Terry sounds like a good officer name--is there a Brigadier Eaton-Terry or a Lieutenant-General Eaton-Terry in your ancestry somewhere Jim?

Hi Plasmo! You know, there is such a thing as the "recent" button. Or what I do nowadays is just threadsuck and then play scroll wheel roulette.

Well, my dad was a lance-corporal during National Service, and my granddad was in WWII. But we're not an Army family at all - the Eaton-Terrys were Savile Row tailors until my Dad.

Jim sounds so fancy. :)

And after the first or maybe second season, I'm with Shawn...
