Dana, I adored your Death. And I was just thinking of re-reading the Sandman series, too.

Dana, I imagine everyone likes your Death. What's not to like? She - the entire piece in fact - is/are sensational.
(Has anyone seen my grammar? Please send it home......)
Dana, I've never read any Sandman, either, and I didn't need to. I imagine being familiar with the Sandman-verse gives it another layer to appreciate, but it was still very nice.
You really nailed Buffy's dialogue, particularly here:
"Limbo? Do they actually play limbo there? Is that where it gets the name?"
And this....
"And hey," says Death, blazing as bright as the full moon. "I'll take good care of your mother. Don't worry about her."
Ouch.
Buffy hears the words, but by the time they make any sense, she's already forgotten them.Double ouch and sniffle.
Damn, that was good.
Those of you who haven't read Sandman, you must. Really. I'm not just saying this as a fangirl of Neil Gaiman. Sandman is goregous, gorgeous writing. An issue of Sandman won the World Fantasy Award for best short story one year, and it absolutely deserved to.
(I'm sure there is more Sandman fic out there, but I'm terrified to look for any of it.)
(Jilli, did you ever get a chance to read my Rurouni Kenshin/Sandman crossover?)

Oh, hell. Did you read Mely's incredible Sandman piece after the library destruction in Iraq? I was sobbing. Shit.
DANA!!! LINK!!!!!!!!!!!!
(Jilli, did you ever get a chance to read my Rurouni Kenshin/Sandman crossover?)
No. Linky-link, please? Oh, and explain Rurouni Kenshin, 'cos I don't know who/what that is.
Did you read Mely's incredible Sandman piece after the library destruction in Iraq?
Yes. It made me teary.
mely's Sleep For Grief. Very teary-making.
Jilli, here. RK is an anime series set in 19th Century Japan. The character in the story (Enishi) is one of the series' main villains, the younger brother of the hero's late wife (accidentally killed by the hero when she rather stupidly tried to rush in to stop a sword fight). Enishi was rather fixated on his older sister and was bent on revenge. At the end of the series, someone gives him his sister's diary to prove that she really was in love with the hero, etc., etc.
Sleep for Grief was wonderful. There's a Sandman/HP crossover (The Language that God Speaks, IIRC) and a remix of the the fic that are both wonderful.
Gaiman's Death is a wonderful character, as are the rest of the Endless. It's also much fun to write them into other series, and....ohshit. plotbunny.
