I've purchased many, like at least half a dozen and probably more, refurbed Macs and I've had wonderful luck with them. I'd say go for it.
Drew, I'm told that 2GB of memory is the absolute minimum necessary to run OSX. How difficult is it to add more memory? Like, for someone who's never opened up a laptop? (I did swap out drives and whatnot in my PC once upon a time, though.)

I did this when I bought a refurbed Mac, and it is very easy. And I am not at all someone who has opened up computers or anything.
Someone is being alarmist about 2 GB of memory. I have plenty of Macs running Leopard on 1 GB and 2 GB of memory and they are just fine. My main ProTools and Final Cut editing machine is a 17" MacBook Pro that I've never gotten around to upgrading past 2 GB. That said, if you want to add memory it's pretty straightforward Here is a link to Apple's directions on how to do it. [link] I don't think you'll have any problems.
I'm going to need more Ram for my old G4 Power Mac, I guess. I'm running Tiger and only have 576 MB RAM.
Sigh, I wonder if PC133 or PC100 512MB dimms are cheap in bulk, nowadays>
When I get home, I guess I need to check dealram and then craigslist.
Hunh. Google is releasing a web browser called "Chrome": [link]
I plan on putting it on the school laptop later in the week and seeing how it runs. It may become the default browser for the student computers.
Has anyone checked out the firefox extension called Cool Iris. Moonlit has been playing with it and I must confess, it's almost enough for me to dump Opera and go with Firefox.
Well...talk it up!
