They should film that story and show it every Christmas.

Drew, I'm told that 2GB of memory is the absolute minimum necessary to run OSX. How difficult is it to add more memory? Like, for someone who's never opened up a laptop? (I did swap out drives and whatnot in my PC once upon a time, though.)

I did this when I bought a refurbed Mac, and it is very easy. And I am not at all someone who has opened up computers or anything.

Our wings are not tired

Someone is being alarmist about 2 GB of memory. I have plenty of Macs running Leopard on 1 GB and 2 GB of memory and they are just fine. My main ProTools and Final Cut editing machine is a 17" MacBook Pro that I've never gotten around to upgrading past 2 GB. That said, if you want to add memory it's pretty straightforward Here is a link to Apple's directions on how to do it. [link] I don't think you'll have any problems.

All is well that ends in pizza.

I'm going to need more Ram for my old G4 Power Mac, I guess. I'm running Tiger and only have 576 MB RAM.

Sigh, I wonder if PC133 or PC100 512MB dimms are cheap in bulk, nowadays>

When I get home, I guess I need to check dealram and then craigslist.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

I plan on putting it on the school laptop later in the week and seeing how it runs. It may become the default browser for the student computers.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Has anyone checked out the firefox extension called Cool Iris. Moonlit has been playing with it and I must confess, it's almost enough for me to dump Opera and go with Firefox.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Well...talk it up!

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

It...it...it...ah fug it, it's too much to talk about. You just have to check it out. It's a new way of viewing graphics and videos from google, amazon, flickr and a few other sites. It really is amazing to look at.

SCREW IT! Bloody thing (CoolIris) is Windows/Mac only. No linux support! *hmmph* CoolIris Previews is different and that does work under Linux.

hi ita et al,

the CoolIris stuff is pretty cool. It has kept me entertained for a night or two and I just discovered the powerpoint plugin which enables you to mutate your ppts into a PicLens gallery and display it on the 3D graphics wall. It certainly jazzes up a plain old ppt and will look pretty impressive projected on a big screen I would think. There is also a WordPress plugin which enables it to be used within blogs too.
