Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
(sorry, out until just now taking Matilda to her first movie, Wall-E, which turned out to be a total happy success, yay!)
Daniel, you are a kindly genius, and I send you all sorts of virtual kisses and hugs and squeeings. WindSparrow is totally right about your world's bestness!
Whee - internets are working again! I unplugged and rebooted *everything* (modem, router, all peripherals) and whatever was clogging up the wireless tubes seems to have disappeared. Whew!
Mom and Dad are in the market for a new TV. Mom asked me the difference between plasma and LCD. I'm clueless. Can I get a clue from the hivemind please?
Plasma costs way way more. That's the extent of my knowledge.
Wasn't there once a problem with image burn or something with LCD? Which, I believe they have since solved.
Actually plasma is cheaper than LCD. LCD used to not have blacks that were as deep as Plasma, but that's no longer the case. LCD seems to be the one that is winning out lately. Cost have come down enough on LCD that it's the better way to go. Also it is much easier to get a 1080p set in LCD. Also, it was the early plasma sets that had the problem with burn in, not the LCD ones.
thanks!
I am looking into finally replacing my desktop. Do the PC brands that people have mentioned as being good for laptops also make quality desktops? Is 2G the minimum amount of RAM I should look for? What elese to I need to look for in a desktop?
I'd love to get a laptop, and they're very cheap right now, but I know it would be a matter of when, not if, that I dropped it. Also, I am seeing Intel and AMD processors. Are Intel more reliable, or just better known?
