...I don't get it, ita. What's indecent about that? (it being a link from ita, I was expecting something...raunchy. And when it was a flash drive, I was like..."OK, am I missing something? Is this a...vibrating flash drive? A...taser flash drive?")

32 gigabyte flash drive for a hundred dollars. That's pretty jaw-dropping.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

It's a phenomenal amount of storage for the price, and for the size. I mean--that just goes in your pocket. How long ago was it that they were shipping laptops with that size hard drives? Not long enough.

Heh. OK, everybody. Safe to click on that ita link there!

Isn't this the point at which I talk about 256K machines and walking to school in the snow uphill both ways?

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

256? Such a luxury!

Yeah, remember boggling at the 512k Macs. 512K!!!!!! Who could ever need that much computing??????

Yeah, I remember cassette drives, and even punch cards (though I never had to read or program with a punch card).

30 baud modems. 5" floppy drives. 8" floppy drives. Hard drives with plates the size of Miami. Commodore PETs. TRS-80s.

Hell, I remember being astounded by 16 colors.

Mostly lurking...

5" floppy drives.

Hell, I still have a few of these. I think a couple of manuals I wrote are on them. Should probably see about getting those converted...

You had color?

I think the most primitive thing I worked on, this side of a Royal Standard, was a typesetting machine with no screen and paper tape.
