What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

What's the best website to upload a file larger than 500 MB? Has anyone used WOOfiles? TransferBigFiles looks good too, but they only host the file for 5 days or 20 downloads.

Oh wait, I've seen people use Up-File before. How's that one? Are any of these as agonizingly slow as MegaUpload?

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

I got an ipod shuffle from work for Christmas and I have no idea what to do with it. Can I upload files from a PC? I feel like such a clueless dork when it come to apple products.

edit: after browsing itunes... Do I basically have to pay 99 cents for every song I want to listen to with this device?

reedit- OK I visited a band's website where I knew they had some free MP3s. I could download them and according to my computer they are on the device... now do I have to wait 4 hours for the thing to finish charging and the green light to come on before I can play them? Or will it only play downloads from itunes?

edit edit edit: Yes the thing came with an "owners manual" but it's sparse and assumes I'll be downloading songs for 99 cents each from itunes

Hey. New board.

What's the best website to upload a file larger than 500 MB?

I would use my own webspace, if it's not something I expected hundreds of people to download.

t /totally unhelpful

Hey. New board.

Or will it only play downloads from itunes?

It will play those mp3s just fine. And I very seriously doubt it would be harmful to listen to them pre-green-light.

Easiest way to get music into iTunes is to rip them from your CDs - put a CD in when iTunes is open and it'll ask if you want to import it into your library. Say yes, and bam, magic iPod files. This is assuming you don't already have an mp3 collection that you could drag into the iTunes library already.

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

apple.com seems to be saying that nothing is going to happen until I've downloaded itunes and I can't download it onto my work computer.

Merry Christmas Employees: here's a device you can't use!

You should know I'm a big deal in the Resistance.

the weird thing is that I can go through "my computer" and see the songs on the ipod and open and play them on my desktop but if I disconnect the ipod and hook up the headphones and press play it just blinks orange and green at me.

Hey. New board.

Oh! Yeah, sorry, I didn't realize what you meant.

Yes, you need iTunes to put files on the iPod. The iPod can also be used as a little USB key type thing, holding any file, but they only play if the iPod has them in its "there be music here!" database, which is built by iTunes.

You can play mp3s just fine (no paying) if you have iTunes, you just have to show iTunes where they are.

Dragging them into the iPod thing via Windows Explorer puts them on the drive, but doesn't make the iPod know they are musics, so it ignores them.

As to how you deal without being able to install iTunes... no idea. There may be programs you can put on without being an administrator that can talk to it, but I not be a Windows guy, so don't know for sure. I know that once upon a time the non-Itunes iPod software goto was EphPod, which can maybe install without an admin account, but I make no promises, guarantees, or insinuations.
