That won't work Typo Boy because they can't log in to run msconfig..
Ginger, have you checked your CD ROM drive is the first device in boot order? You need to get into your BIOS - it'll be something like F10 or F2 on power on for 'Setup', and there's the boot order in that. Then boot from the Windows XP CD.
A repair thing should fix it, I reckon.
Ginger, do you also have an administrator login?
If you get to the login screen and hit ctl-alt-del a couple of times, you get the old style login screen and can type in"administrator" and a password. Many people have no administrator password, so can leave it blank.
Yes, it's set boot from the CD.
I can't go to the Start menu because I can't open windows.
I have tried all these things. I hate this.
Some online recommendations suggest running recover, but even though the machine was booted from the CD, it then says there's no CD.
I'm going to eat lunch and then try to make a DOS boot disk. I suppose taking to drink would have a bad effect on my troubleshooting.
it then says there's no CD.
Does Windows XP setup start from CD, but it then falls over?
It starts for the CD, then says an upgrade is in process. When I try to continue the upgrade or run repair, it wants the CD, but says it's not there.
Does the version of CD you have match the version of Windows you have? (Ie home, professional, media centre?)
I have nothing to offer on the xp troubleshooting front, but I was curious if is there was anyway to download videos from YouTube? Much like fics, there are vids I want to make sure I never lose track of.
